PITTSBURGH, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — MSP360, a provider of backup, remote access, and RMM software, today announced the general availability of MSP360 Backup for Proxmox Community Edition, a free Proxmox VE backup solution that protects VMs and LXC containers at the hypervisor level.
MSP360 Backup for Proxmox Community Edition runs on a supported Windows machine and connects to Proxmox VE through its API. It backs up VMs and LXC containers at the hypervisor level without installing an MSP360 agent inside each workload. No Proxmox Backup Server is required.
Users can back up data to the storage they choose, including Amazon S3 and S3-compatible providers, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Storage, local drives, NAS devices, and network shares.
Community Edition supports full and incremental VM and LXC container backups, client-side encryption, Object Lock for supported storage, complete VM and container recovery, and individual file and folder restore.Proxmox backups can also be recovered as standalone virtual disks.
MSP360 Backup 8.7.1 also lets users restore image-based Windows backups directly to Proxmox. Users can also restore VM backups created on VMware or Hyper-V to a Proxmox server. This gives organizations an additional recovery and migration path across virtualization platforms.
“Proxmox setups at the single-host scale face the same backup problem as larger environments: snapshots stored alongside the workloads they protect can be lost if that storage fails,” said Anton Zorin, VP of Product and Partnerships at MSP360. “Community Edition lets users keep backups on independent storage – cloud or local – without requiring a separate Proxmox Backup Server deployment. Availability
MSP360 Backup for Proxmox Community Edition is available immediately at no software cost for one Proxmox host with up to two CPU sockets and up to 5 TB of backup data in the cloud, with no time limit. Third-party cloud storage charges may apply depending on the provider and usage.
Users who need capacity beyond Community Edition’s limits or commercial backup for Proxmox, VMware, and Hyper-V can choose the standalone MSP360 Backup VM Edition for local management. MSPs and IT teams that need centralized monitoring, remote management, and multi-tenant administration can choose MSP360 Managed Backup.
