The new app helps people rediscover overlooked moments and create Memory Art, movies, digital magazines or photo books from memories once buried in their camera roll
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Mixbook, the #1-rated photo book brand, announced a major expansion beyond photo books, introducing a new iOS app that helps people rediscover, organize, and experience the memories captured in their camera rolls. The launch marks the next chapter in Mixbook’s evolution into a broader home for memories, bringing together memory discovery, creative storytelling, and sharing across digital and print.
People capture more of their lives than ever, but many of those memories stay buried among thousands of photos. Mixbook surfaces forgotten memories and organizes them into curated collections and art, helping people relive the stories behind the photos they have already taken.
“Our camera rolls hold the people and memories we care about most, but the stories behind those photos can easily get lost,” said Andrew Laffoon, CEO and co-founder of Mixbook. “For 20 years, Mixbook has helped people preserve those stories through photo books. But the real value of a memory is how it helps us understand our lives, reconnect with people we love, and hold onto the moments that shape us. This represents the next chapter for Mixbook: giving people a home to bring the stories of their lives back together across digital and print.”
From Camera Roll to Story
The new Mixbook experience brings forward moments people may have forgotten, filters out duplicates and organizes photos into curated memories and chronological timelines. Instead of scrolling through thousands of disconnected images, people can return to a trip, celebration, relationship, or everyday moment as a story.
From there, users can add their own context and shape those memories into Stories with narrative text, chapters and timelines. A single memory can become Memory Art, a movie, a digital magazine or a photo book. Users can share digital creations privately with friends and family or turn the memory into a printed book to keep or give as a gift.
A Home for Memories Across Digital and Print
The new app expands Mixbook from a place people visit to make a photo book into a home for their memories.
Mixbook’s patent-pending memory technology combines signals from photos with the context people provide to help surface, organize, and shape memories into meaningful stories and art. Initial photo analysis happens directly on the user’s device, and people remain in control of what they create, edit, share, or print.
The app launches alongside a broader investment in understanding why memories matter. The Memory Project is Mixbook’s commitment to exploring the science, preservation and cultural power of memory, led by Dr. Christie Chung, cognitive psychologist, Provost at Palo Alto University and Mixbook’s Memory Science Advisor.
“Storytelling is kind of like giving meaning to episodes. I think of this as: when you experience life, it’s like different pieces of a puzzle coming at you. You’re experiencing every single episode, every single day. But the most important and powerful thing that we as human beings can do is to put that together into a story,” said Dr. Chung.
Through The Memory Project, Mixbook will continue exploring how memory and storytelling create greater meaning and connection to the people, moments and experiences that shape our lives.
Free to Create, With More in Mixbook+
The new Mixbook app is available now for iOS and is free to download and use. An optional Mixbook+ subscription is available for $9.99 per month, offering expanded access to Stories and digital creations, watermark-free sharing and downloads, and a $10 monthly credit toward print orders. Photo books remain free to create, with customers paying only when they choose to print, starting at $14.99.
