TORONTO, Oct. 2, 2026 /CNW/ — Making homes more energy efficient helps Canadians save money on their energy bills and improves their comfort, all while reducing emissions.

Today, the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, alongside Jennifer McKelvie, Member of Parliament for Ajax and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, announced support through the Green Municipal Fund’s Community Efficiency Financing and Sustainable Affordable Housing initiatives for 162 projects across Canada that will help people access home energy retrofit financing and build more energy-efficient, affordable, and resilient homes. Delivered through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund, these projects will help Canadians lower energy costs, improve housing affordability, and strengthen communities in the face of a changing climate while supporting Canada’s transition to a cleaner, more competitive economy.

Through an investment of $66.3 million, municipalities and local delivery partners will make it easier for homeowners to undertake energy-saving upgrades such as improved insulation, high-efficiency windows, heat pumps, and other retrofit measures. By helping Canadians improve the efficiency of their homes, these projects will reduce energy consumption, lower household costs, strengthen community resilience, and support the long-term infrastructure needed to build a stronger, more affordable, and more sustainable future for Canada.

The announcement includes projects in every region of the country, including:

Sustainable Affordable Housing projects in Peel Region, Markham, Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Halifax, Fredericton, and many other communities.Community Efficiency Financing home retrofit financing feasibility studies and program development in Markham and Richmond Hill.A Sustainable Affordable Housing project in Nunavut that will support energy-efficient and low-carbon housing solutions in northern communities.

By working with local governments and utilities, these projects will make it easier for Canadians to access financing for energy efficiency upgrades that can reduce household energy costs while helping Canada transition to a low-carbon economy.
