Planned senior seller initiative targets home-based income, first-time sellers and untapped household inventory.
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — As living costs strain retirement budgets, Los Angeles technology startup One Stop Swap is planning One Stop Swap Second Act, an initiative to help older Americans earn supplemental income from home while bringing new sellers and inventory into the resale economy.
Research underscores both the need and the market opportunity:
48% of retirees who returned to work cited making money as their primary reason, while 41% of working or job-seeking adults 50+ cited everyday living expenses (AARP, February 2026).67% of older workers surveyed believed finding another job would be difficult (AARP, 2026).60% of adults 50+ said technology was not designed with their age in mind (AARP technology research).$393 billion is the projected global secondhand apparel market by 2030; the U.S. secondhand apparel market grew nearly four times faster than broader clothing retail in 2025 (ThredUp, 2026).
“When I first came up with One Stop Swap, it was never just about creating another shopping app,” said Stephen Bikoff, Co-Founder of One Stop Swap. “It was about helping people. Valuable things sit unused in homes while people struggle with bills. I wanted to help change that.”
One Stop Swap Second Act: Removing Barriers to Selling
The proposed program would provide a Senior Seller Help Desk, guided first-sale assistance, beginner-friendly tutorials and scam-prevention education. The company is also exploring family-assisted listings and integration of existing USPS pickup services, which collect eligible prepaid packages at qualifying addresses.
“We don’t want to hand a 78-year-old an app and wish them good luck,” Bikoff added. “We want to answer questions and help them make that first sale. If someone no longer drives or can’t manage an eight-hour shift, technology should open doors, not create more obstacles.”
A New Source of Sellers and Inventory
The initiative is also a potential marketplace growth strategy. Older Americans may hold decades of clothing, jewelry, tools, collectibles and household goods that have never been listed online. Helping first-time sellers participate could expand selection, attract buyers and encourage repeat transactions.
One Stop Swap plans to explore outreach through senior organizations, retirement communities and downsizing specialists as potential cost-effective seller-acquisition channels. These channels have not yet been proven.
“More sellers mean more merchandise, more choice and more potential transactions,” Bikoff said. “Helping people and building a successful business don’t have to be separate goals.”
Prelaunch Momentum and Economics
Approximately 3,400 prospective members have preregistered ahead of the targeted mid-2027 national launch. The first 5,000 Founding Members are expected to receive six months without buyer or seller platform fees, subject to program terms. Standard cash transactions are planned to carry a 3% seller platform fee plus a separate 3% buyer platform fee a combined 6% before costs and adjustments.
