Comoto Family of Brands expands safety campaign with support from Progressive Insurance® and Mips®, to drive awareness of wearable airbags and other innovative protection technology
PHILADELPHIA, May 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Comoto – the parent company of America’s leading motorcycle gear retailers, including Cycle Gear, J&P Cycles, RevZilla and REVER – is rolling out the second year of their Airbags Save initiative this May in support of Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. The countrywide campaign is designed to raise awareness about wearable airbag technology and its role in reducing serious injuries among riders.
Launched in 2024, Airbags Save has helped introduce thousands of riders to advanced airbag protection systems available to motorcyclists. Making these products accessible to try on and learn about at any of the 163 Cycle Gear locations in the US allows riders to see exactly why an airbag is just as important as a helmet when outfitting themselves. Since the launch of Airbags Save, Comoto’s new unit sales have grown over 75% in the past 12 months and 117% since March 1st of this year (over 1,600 units).
“Airbags Save has been incredibly successful in bringing awareness of this technology to the public,” explained Stevan Popovich, President of Cycle Gear. “Most people don’t even realize the technology exists, but we’ve continued to see adoption skyrocket. Our message is resonating, and it’s making a real difference in rider safety.”
Joining the campaign this year as presenting sponsor is Progressive, the country’s leader in motorcycle insurance. Their support in raising awareness for this pivotal technology to aid motorcycle riders is a testament to their commitment to the community and improving rider safety while on the road through the Airbags Save initiative.
“At Progressive, protection and safety are a priority,” said Eric Doubler, Progressive Recreational Lines Business Leader. “As the leading insurer of motorcycle insurance, we strive not only to educate motorcycle riders on having the right coverage, but to also provide opportunities for enhanced safety measures. Collaborating with Comoto on the ‘Airbags Save’ campaign allows us to do just that.”
In addition to wearable airbags, Airbags Save also highlights the critical role of helmet safety. As part of that effort, Comoto has partnered with Mips®, a global leader in helmet-based safety, incorporating Mips® technology into the Sedici line of helmets. Mips® safety system consists of a low-friction layer that is designed to allow a multi-directional movement inside the helmet, intended to help reduce rotational motion to the head in certain angled impacts that can lead to concussions or other brain injuries.
“For us, safety is a first priority, and our team works tirelessly against our vision of reducing head injuries, and saving more lives,” explains Max Strandwitz, Mips® CEO. “We’re happy to be partnering with Comoto on this very important subject of motorcycle safety, and in particular helmet safety, further advancing the Sedici line of helmets.”
With so many advancements in rider safety, Comoto believes there’s a new generation of riders ready to find their passion as motorcyclists. As such, Comoto has also partnered with the Motorcycle Industry Council for the Ride With Us campaign, which aims to make motorcycling more accessible by removing common barriers such as licensing, gear knowledge and community connection. Through hands-on experiences like RIDE Day events, participants can try riding a motorcycle in a controlled environment with certified coaches and safety gear provided.
