California Pool Partners Launches Owner-Centric Platform as Alternative to Traditional Private Equity Roll-Ups

New model combines operational expertise, AI-powered tools, and vertical integration to create mutually beneficial partnerships with owners while preserving local management and neighborhood character.

SAN MATEO, Calif., Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — California Pool Partners (CPP) today announced the formal launch of its owner-centric platform, offering pool service business owners a collaborative alternative to conventional private equity roll-up models.

Unlike traditional approaches that often prioritize rapid consolidation and centralized control, CPP is built around mutually beneficial relationships with owners. The model is designed to help owners professionalize and scale while preserving the local ownership, neighborhood relationships, and service quality that define successful pool service businesses in California and across the west coast.

The platform has established leading operations in two major California markets, Los Angeles and San Diego, and plans to expand into a third market this fall. The recent acquisition of Payan Pools, one of San Diego County’s most respected pool service companies, illustrates how the model works in practice.

Javier Payan built Payan Pools over nearly four decades after purchasing a $23,000 route in 1987. He was not looking to sell when he met the CPP founders. After evaluating the opportunity, he said the fit was clear: “If I was to write down what it would take for me to sell this business, it was all right there. They checked all my boxes.”

The founders of California Pool Partners, Evan Ferl, Eric Johnston and Mark Doody own and operate the platform themselves, without any external parties directing decisions. This structure allows them to prioritize long-term service quality and employee satisfaction over short-term optimization pressures.

“We don’t have anybody behind us pushing us to optimize something at the sake of service quality or employee satisfaction,” said Eric Johnston, Co-Founder of CPP. “We work for the GM, not the other way around. We want the general manager to tell me how the business will best be impacted by our actions.”

CPP centralizes certain financial, administrative, and selected operational functions while leaving substantial day-to-day authority with each company’s general manager. The approach is deliberately not a one-size-fits-all formula. Instead, it creates flexible partnerships that align incentives and protect the local character of the businesses it partners with.

The platform currently operates through subsidiaries including AC Pools LLC and Payan Pools LLC, serving thousands of residential and commercial pools across Southern California. CPP combines hands-on operational support with AI-forward systems tailored to pool service, including route optimization, water chemistry management, predictive maintenance, and customer communications, alongside vertical integration spanning service delivery, chemical handling and compliance, equipment, and technology.

“Independent, locally rooted businesses built California’s pool service industry,” said Evan Ferl, Co-Founder of California Pool Partners. “Our goal is to be the best long-term partner for those owners – helping them continue to build on what they’ve created while preserving the local relationships, reputation, and culture that made their businesses successful in the first place.”

HelloNation Article Featuring Pest Control Expert Steven Moore Explains Why Crickets Become More Active Indoors During Fall

Published

The article outlines how cooler temperatures drive crickets indoors and what homeowners can do to prevent infestations.

PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Why do so many Port Washington homeowners notice more crickets in their homes during the fall? According to a HelloNation article, the rise in cricket activity is a seasonal behavior linked to cooler temperatures and changing environmental conditions. Steven Moore, Pest Control Expert and owner of Hubert Moore Exterminator LLC, provides clear insight into how crickets move from outdoor spaces into homes and how to prevent them.

The article explains that as fall settles over Port Washington and much of the United States, field, cave, and camelback crickets start leaving lawns and gardens for warmer environments. This migration is part of their natural seasonal behavior. During spring and summer, crickets thrive outdoors where they can feed and lay eggs in the soil. However, when temperatures begin to drop, they seek warmth and moisture indoors. Their small size and strong legs make it easy for them to start entering your home through tiny cracks, gaps, or unsealed openings around windows and doors.

Steven Moore notes that these entry points often go unnoticed until crickets are already inside. Sealing entry points is one of the most effective ways to prevent an indoor infestation. Weatherstripping around windows and doors can seal the small gaps that let crickets slip through, while also improving energy efficiency. Door thresholds (including on garage doors)  on the bottom of doors may even lead to some savings on the heating bill. The article recommends checking areas like crawl spaces, vents, chimneys, and foundation cracks, where fall pests such as crickets and stink bugs can easily get inside.

Steven Moore emphasizes that homeowners in Port Washington can significantly reduce cricket problems by taking simple maintenance steps before the colder months arrive. Basements, garages, and crawl spaces often provide the warmth and humidity that attract these insects. Once crickets find their way indoors, they will stay active well into the fall season (and sometimes through winter), particularly in spaces with ongoing moisture problems. Keeping these areas dry and well-ventilated is key to preventing indoor infestation.

Moisture control plays a significant role in deterring both crickets and the smaller insects they feed on. The HelloNation article outlines how dehumidifiers, proper ventilation, and prompt repair of plumbing leaks can make a basement far less inviting to fall pests. Moisture not only attracts field, cave, and camelback crickets but also creates ideal breeding conditions for other insects. Reducing humidity levels, therefore, limits both food sources and living conditions for unwanted pests.

Even though crickets are not known to pose a threat to human health, their presence indoors can be a nuisance. Their constant chirping can disrupt sleep and create an ongoing annoyance, especially at night. Cricket droppings are repulsive to homeowners.  Sticky traps are recommended in the HelloNation article for monitoring cricket activity and identifying problem areas.

During spring and summer, crickets prefer outdoor habitats, but when the weather cools, they transition indoors for survival. This cyclical pattern of migration is part of their natural seasonal behavior. Steven Moore points out that homeowners who take preventive measures—such as sealing entry points, improving moisture control, and checking around pipe chases, windows, and doors—are much less likely to deal with recurring infestations each fall.  There are outdoor areas to check for cricket activity.

Another key point raised in the HelloNation article is that many people underestimate how easily crickets can move through small openings. Their long antennae help them navigate tight spaces, while their strong jumping legs allow them to reach areas like upper window frames and basement corners. Replacing damaged window screens, sealing around utility openings, and inspecting weatherstripping are simple actions that, together, create a strong barrier against crickets entering your home.

Steven Moore also stresses that understanding the life cycle of crickets helps explain why they appear in such high numbers during certain months. They also release aggregation pheromones. In the United States, these insects lay eggs in late summer, and as the eggs hatch, the young crickets quickly seek warmth and shelter. Without proper sealing, many find shelter inside homes throughout Port Washington. The combination of heat, humidity, and clutter in areas like basements, garages, and crawl spaces offers everything they need to survive until winter.

For homeowners who have already noticed increased cricket activity, the HelloNation article encourages early intervention. Regular inspection and sealing entry points can stop new insects from getting inside, while ongoing moisture control prevents existing crickets from thriving. Sticky traps, combined with targeted cleaning and reduced clutter, can help identify where crickets are hiding and the extent of the problem. The use of pesticides against crickets is recommended only for pest control professionals.

As temperatures continue to drop, cricket activity will naturally decline. Many will die off as winter approaches, but prevention is still important. Without addressing moisture problems and open gaps, the cycle repeats every year. Steven Moore’s experience in pest control shows that most indoor infestations are preventable with consistent maintenance, proper exclusion/sealing of holes, and awareness of how fall pests behave.

The HelloNation article concludes that homeowners in Port Washington can keep their homes free from crickets by understanding their seasonal behavior and acting before temperatures fall too low. By addressing vulnerable areas such as basements, windows, doors, and crawl spaces, residents can maintain pest-free, comfortable living spaces.
