OrthAlign Announces First Cases with Lantern® ASC System, Eliminating the Economic Barriers of Robotic Technology

Published

IRVINE, Calif., July 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — OrthAlign, Inc., the leader in handheld orthopedic technology, announced the successful completion of the first clinical cases utilizing the Lantern® ASC system, marking a major milestone in bringing advanced surgical technology built for the ambulatory surgery center (ASC) environment.

Designed specifically for the realities of outpatient joint replacement, Lantern ASC delivers the accuracy of advanced enabling technology in a portable, simple, and cost-effective platform that eliminates many of the financial and operational barriers associated with robotic systems.

The first cases were performed on June 30th by Dr. Zane Uhland, orthopedic surgeon and ASC owner, who performed 6 total knee procedures with Lantern ASC in a high-efficiency outpatient setting in under 4 hours.

“As both a surgeon and an ASC owner, I’ve always believed that technology should enhance patient care without creating additional complexity for the surgical team or the facility,” said Dr. Zane Uhland. “Lantern ASC delivered exactly that. The system integrated seamlessly into our workflow, provided the real-time data needed to confidently make intraoperative decisions, and allowed us to maintain an efficient surgical schedule without sacrificing precision. In the ASC environment, where efficiency matters, it’s rare to find technology that improves decision-making while fitting so naturally into the way we already operate.”

Unlike robotic platforms that often require substantial capital investments, annual service agreements, dedicated operating room space, and implant volume commitments, Lantern ASC enables facilities to adopt advanced technology without sacrificing financial flexibility. The system is compatible with most major implant systems, allowing the freedom to choose the implant that best serves each patient.

Lantern ASC also scales naturally with procedural volume. Facilities can expand access to enabling technology without purchasing additional capital equipment, incurring escalating service costs, or committing to long-term contractual obligations.

“For too long, advanced technology has required facilities to accept significant financial and operational tradeoffs,” said Eric Timko, Chief Executive Officer of OrthAlign. “Lantern ASC delivers a fundamentally different model, providing the benefits of enabling technology without expensive capital purchases, ongoing service contracts, or implant commitments. By preserving procedural efficiency and avoiding the workflow delays often associated with robotic systems, Lantern ASC helps ASCs treat more patients each day, driving greater revenue, stronger operating margins, and long-term growth while delivering high-quality patient care.”

Built upon the success of over 450,000 OrthAlign cases, Lantern ASC includes a reusable navigation unit paired with a procedural Smart Pack Kit, integrating seamlessly into existing surgical workflows. Lantern ASC delivers real-time navigation for total knee, partial knee, and ligament balancing in primary and revision knee arthroplasty. The system’s minimal footprint, rapid setup, and intuitive workflow allow facilities to maximize throughput and maintain efficient OR utilization providing a critical advantage as total joint procedures continue to migrate to the ASC setting.

With the successful completion of these first clinical cases, OrthAlign continues its mission of making advanced orthopedic technology accessible to every surgeon, facility, and patient.

Major Anime Licensors Join Platform by the founder and former CEO of Crunchyroll to Reach Global Buyers

TOKYO and SAN FRANCISCO, July 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Nakama, Inc., today announced the launch of AniBiz.com, the first dedicated B2B marketplace built specifically for the global anime industry. Designed to streamline the complex licensing process, the platform provides a centralized, secure environment for global buyers to officially access anime Intellectual Property (IP) and connect with anime rights holders.

With the global anime market projected to exceed $35 billion in 2026, the demand for high-quality content rights have outpaced the industry’s traditional, often fragmented, manual licensing workflows. AniBiz.com addresses these challenges by offering a digital-first solution that respects the unique structure of Japanese anime licensing, the ecosystem of rights holders, distributors, merchandisers, and retailers, while providing new global buyers with an official verified path to acquire and collaborate on anime IP.

“Anime licensing is uniquely complex. Rights are fragmented across territories, formats, products, and time windows,” said Brady McCollum, Co-Founder and CEO of Nakama, Inc. “AniBiz was built specifically for those realities. We’re creating a trusted system that gives licensors greater visibility and control while helping buyers move faster with confidence.”

“For decades, access to anime IP has largely depended on who you know. By being the official marketplace for Anime IP, AniBiz.com opens the door to entirely new categories of partners… from emerging brands and manufacturers to creators, events, and startups looking to participate in the Anime Economy,” said Kun Gao, Co-Founder and President.

The launch is supported by a coalition of anime industry titans and ecosystem leaders who recognize the need for digital modernization in the sector. Anime licensors joining the platform include ADK Emotions Inc., Aniplex of America Inc., Avex Pictures Inc., CyberAgent Inc., Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd., Dentsu Anime Solutions Inc., Fuji Creative Corporation, FURYU Pictures Corporation, Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures Inc., Imagica Infos Co.,Ltd., Mainichi Broadcasting System, Pony Canyon Inc., TAKARATOMY, Toei Animation Inc., TOHO Global Inc., Tokyo Broadcasting System, TV Asahi Corporation, TV TOKYO Corporation, Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation, YTE and more.

“The anime industry finally has a dedicated platform to call its home for all things B2B. In true Nakama spirit, AniBiz.com enables the entire industry to band together and engage directly with the new world of global partners interested in working with anime IP. Through the AniBiz platform, all the world can now reach the anime industry in one official place,” said Sae Whan Song, Co-Founder and Head of Business Development.

Canadian UAVs’ Sparrowhawk™ Radar Earns Transport Canada Pre-Validated Declaration

Component-level approval of the ground-based Detect-and-Avoid radar sets a global benchmark for how safe, scalable Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations are certified

CALGARY, AB, July 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ – Canadian UAVs (CUAVs) today announced that its Sparrowhawk™ ground-based Detect-and-Avoid (DAA) radar has achieved a Pre-Validated Declaration (PVD) under Transport Canada’s RPAS safety-assurance framework after ten (10) years of development and 50,000 operational hours.

For BVLOS operators, the practical impact is significant. By deploying Sparrowhawk, operators can reference Canadian UAVs’ accepted compliance evidence in their own applications rather than building DAA compliance from scratch. This enables BVLOS missions in more congested and complicated airspace by any licensed operator.

The PVD confirms that Sparrowhawk meets the requirements of Canadian Air Regulations (CARs) Standard 922; specifically, 922.10 (Detect, Alert, and Avoid Systems) and 922.12 (Demonstrated Environmental Envelope). This makes it the only configurable DAA element on Transport Canada’s published eligibility list. Sparrowhawk is also listed as a configurable element under the standard Safety Assurance Declaration (SAD) equipment list.

The distinction between a PVD and SAD matters. Under a SAD alone, a manufacturer attests compliance and Transport Canada may audit retrospectively. Under a PVD, Transport Canada reviews and formally accepts the manufacturer’s Means of Compliance plan before any declaration is made.

“This is the milestone we have been building toward for ten years, and it would not have been possible without the leadership Transport Canada has shown in detect-and-avoid regulation,” said Sean Greenwood, CEO of Canadian UAVs. “Canada is setting the standard for the world.”

Because Sparrowhawk is ground-based rather than airframe-mounted, it is not tied to a single RPAS platform. Operators have flexibility to pair the system with the aircraft their mission requires, and the DAA compliance follows. This makes it equally applicable across defence, critical infrastructure, public safety, and industry.

“The PVD process is thorough by design and does not just take your word for it. The process examines every constituent element of the system against defined criteria. With Sparrowhawk having over 50,000 operational hours, we were able to demonstrate that the system works, but our processes for deploying and supporting it are mature and repeatable.” said Mahmoud Abdelrahman, Engineering Program Manager, Canadian UAVs.

Transport Canada’s component-level review framework, one of the few in the world that validates constituent technologies rather than approving entire missions on a case-by-case basis, means the Sparrowhawk PVD carries weight beyond Canada. As other regulators develop their own BVLOS frameworks, a technology validated under Transport Canada’s evidence-based process sets a credible international reference point.

About Canadian UAVs: Canadian UAVs is the only company with a DAA product to hold regulatory authorizations with both Transport Canada and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to enable Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations. Its Sparrowhawk™ radar is a portable, ground-based detect-and-avoid system that combines radar, computer-vision techniques, and ADS-B to deliver an integrated airspace picture for safe BVLOS drone operations, supporting customers across defence, energy, agriculture, surveying, logistics, mining, critical infrastructure, and public safety throughout North America and Europe.
