Collaboration combines Swiss Re’s catastrophe risk insights with SAS’ AI and actuarial modeling capabilities to strengthen underwriting, pricing and portfolio resilience

CARY, N.C., July 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — SAS, a global leader in data and AI, and leading global reinsurance provider Swiss Re have entered into a partnership designed to help insurers strengthen resilience through AI-driven risk intelligence and advanced actuarial decisioning.

“The partnership between SAS and Swiss Re reflects a broader industry shift toward insurance operations that combine AI and advanced analytics, catastrophe intelligence and human expertise to support more agile decision making.”

As a member of the SAS Strategic Technology Partner Program, Swiss Re will combine its CatNet® natural catastrophe risk intelligence with SAS® Insurance Life Cycle Accelerator, enabling insurers to incorporate predictive hazard insights directly into underwriting, pricing and portfolio management workflows.

“Insurers cannot rely solely on historical loss data to understand risk,” said Stu Bradley, Senior VP for Risk, Fraud and Compliance Solutions at SAS. “The combination of SAS’ AI and actuarial modeling capabilities with Swiss Re’s catastrophe intelligence will enable insurers to make faster, more transparent and more resilient underwriting and pricing decisions.”

Secondary perils, primary risk

As climate-driven events increase in frequency and severity, insurers are facing mounting pressure from so-called “secondary perils” such as floods, hailstorms and wildfires. According to Swiss Re Institute – the research and thought leadership arm of Swiss Re – 99.9% of insured catastrophe losses in the United States in 2025 originated from secondary peril events, underscoring the growing importance of managing these risks.

The offering will provide insurers with:

Powerful data integration. Users can view high-resolution CatNet natural catastrophe data directly within existing SAS workflows via secure APIs and geocoding. Hazard intelligence is directly integrated into actuarial and underwriting workflows – no manual data manipulation.Automated and advanced decisioning. Real-time model scoring using machine learning incorporates current hazard information and event notifications. Enriched decision intelligence is automated for pricing, rating and underwriting. Model scores are unified with business rules, and champion-challenger strategies are run within guardrails for profit-loss ratio, fairness and compliance.Portfolio risk steering. Insurers can better understand concentration risk, assess portfolio impacts, and perform “what-if” analyses across geographies and perils.Proven operational efficiencies. SAS and Swiss Re expect their combined solution to drive massive productivity gains, including a 95% increase in decisioning efficiency and a 50% efficiency boost in the modeling process.Bottom-line and volume growth: Underwriting teams will be able to review 40% more risks with the same manpower, driving both top- and bottom-line impact.Robust governance and auditability. Governed, explainable AI workflows support regulatory and operational transparency. Rather than fragmented spreadsheet logic, a unified, cloud-native approach ensures full lineage, visibility and audit control from exposure data to final rate deployment.

The combined capabilities are designed to help insurers improve operational efficiency while strengthening profitability and resilience in the face of rising catastrophe exposure.

“Secondary perils are not secondary in terms of their financial impact,” said Ali Shahkarami, Head Risk Data Solutions Insurance at Swiss Re. “Insurers need the ability to understand how risk is evolving across portfolios and geographies in near-real time. Together, Swiss Re and SAS are enabling carriers to integrate catastrophe intelligence directly into underwriting and actuarial decision-making so they can better anticipate risk, close protection gaps and build more sustainable portfolios.”

The partnership reflects a broader industry shift toward insurance operations that combine AI and advanced analytics, catastrophe intelligence and human expertise to support more agile decision making.

“The future of the insurance industry will be led by enterprises embracing the concept of ‘new collar,'” said Franklin Manchester, Principal Global Insurance Advisor at SAS. “Insurance professionals collaborating with AI agents to bring agility to decision making will be the hallmark of leaders – and the bane of laggards – when the dust settles.”

Eclipse Automation, Fermi Solutions, Imagine 4D, and Stern Laboratories join national coalition supporting Canadian nuclear technology

MONTREAL, July 29, 2026 /CNW/ — AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, today welcomed four new Ambassadors to the Canadians for CANDU campaign: Eclipse Automation, Fermi Solutions, Imagine 4D, and Stern Laboratories.

The addition of four new Ambassadors reflects the continuing momentum behind the Canadians for CANDU campaign and support behind a sovereign Canadian nuclear industry.

These organizations represent the breadth and diversity of Canadian expertise: advanced manufacturing and automation, specialized nuclear engineering, digital twin training technology, and reactor safety and reliability testing. Together, they demonstrate how Canada’s nuclear ecosystem extends well beyond electricity generation to support high-skilled Canadian jobs, innovation, advanced manufacturing, scientific research, healthcare, and Canadian intellectual property.

“The addition of these four outstanding organizations is an important milestone for Canadians for CANDU and a powerful demonstration of the breadth of expertise that has developed around Canadian nuclear technology,” said Joe St. Julian, President, Nuclear, AtkinsRéalis. “From engineering and advanced automation to digital innovation, and reactor safety, each of these organizations contributes a unique capability to Canada’s world-class nuclear ecosystem. Their support reinforces that choosing CANDU is not only an energy decision; it is an investment in Canadian workers, businesses, innovation, healthcare, and long-term energy security.”

Launched in 2024, the Canadians for CANDU campaign represents a strong coalition that includes organized labour, members of Canada’s nuclear supply chain, Indigenous organizations, academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and other Canadian businesses.

Led by Co-Chairs The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien and The Honourable Mike Harris, the movement brings together leaders from across Canada who share a belief that Canada’s energy future should be built on Canadian technology, Canadian expertise and Canadian resources.

Together, Canadians for CANDU is advocating for a stronger, more secure and more prosperous future powered by homegrown innovation built by Canadians, for Canadians.

Eclipse Automation

Eclipse Automation is a global factory automation company that designs and builds intelligent, precision automation systems for complex manufacturing environments. Its end-to-end capabilities extend from engineering and concept development through tooling, integration, installation, and lifecycle support.

“The future of Canada’s nuclear industry depends on our ability to develop world-class capabilities at home. Achieving this requires the integration of engineering excellence, advanced manufacturing, and automation to deliver complex projects with unmatched certainty, speed, and quality,” said President and CEO Steve Mai. “Eclipse Automation is proud to help shape this future by strengthening Canada’s nuclear supply chain, cultivating highly skilled talent, and enabling technologies crucial for energy security, economic prosperity, and the next generation of clean energy infrastructure. Through our C4C Ambassadorship, we affirm our belief that Canada’s greatest advantage lies in the innovation and collaboration we foster together.”

Stern Laboratories

Stern Laboratories conducts specialized reactor safety and reliability experiments for nuclear utilities, reactor and fuel vendors, government agencies, regulators, laboratories, universities, and equipment suppliers.

“At Stern Labs, we’ve spent over 60 years protecting the health and safety of Canadians through trusted testing and certification of Canadian nuclear technology,” said President Gordon Hadaller. “Joining Canadians for CANDU is a natural extension of that commitment. Canada’s nuclear industry is built on a foundation of rigorous quality, innovation, and world-class standards–values that we share every day. We’re proud to support a uniquely Canadian technology that strengthens our economy, advances clean energy, creates high-value jobs, and reinforces Canada’s leadership in science and engineering for generations to come.”

The CANDU moment

Canada has world-leading expertise in the design, construction, operation, maintenance, refurbishment, and overall program management of nuclear reactors, supported by a highly qualified domestic supply chain.

CANDU technology is one of Canada’s most important innovations and remains the country’s only domestically developed and licensed large-scale nuclear reactor technology. CANDU reactors can use natural uranium, provide reliable, emissions-free baseload electricity, and support the production of medical isotopes used in healthcare systems around the world. More than 250 Canadian companies contribute to the CANDU supply chain, creating economic benefits that reach communities across the country.

Each new CANDU project generates thousands of high-quality jobs and billions of dollars in economic activity, helping to sustain Canadian expertise in one of the world’s most advanced industries. From uranium mining and fuel fabrication to engineering, construction and long-term operations, CANDU creates opportunities throughout the entire nuclear value chain.

By investing in Canadian technology, Canada invests in Canadian workers, businesses and communities – strengthening domestic industrial capacity while building the infrastructure needed to power future economic growth.

The Canadians for CANDU campaign calls on federal and provincial governments to support the deployment of made-in-Canada CANDU technology as part of the country’s long-term energy and economic strategy.

The choice is clear. It’s time to choose CANDU.

Babylist Welcomes Jennifer Hyman as Chief Executive Officer as Founder Natalie Gordon Transitions to Executive Chair Role

Hyman, co-founder and former CEO of Rent the Runway and current Babylist Board Member, will assume the role of CEO in September 2026

OAKLAND, Calif., July 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Babylist, the leading platform for growing families, today announced that founder and CEO Natalie Gordon will transition into the role of Executive Chair. Jennifer Hyman, co-founder and former CEO of Rent the Runway, will succeed Gordon as Chief Executive Officer, effective September 9, 2026.

Hyman co-founded Rent the Runway in 2009 and led the company as CEO for nearly two decades. During her tenure, she created the category of clothing rental, reshaped how fashion brands acquire customers, and pioneered just-in-time reverse logistics. In 2021, she took Rent the Runway public, becoming one of a small number of women to found a company and lead it through an IPO. Hyman joined Babylist’s board earlier this year, establishing a foundational connection to the company’s team, culture, and mission.

“Founding and leading Babylist has been the honor of my life. I’m so proud of our team and what we’ve built over the last 15 years,” said Gordon. “I have complete confidence in Jenn as Babylist’s next CEO. Jenn is a visionary leader who has created entirely new categories and markets throughout her career. She’s a builder of extraordinary teams and culture, and the kind of leader people choose to follow, not just work for. Jenn is customer-obsessed, sees growth opportunities before anyone else does, and knows what it takes to build customer trust and connection. I can’t imagine a better person to lead Babylist into its next chapter, and I look forward to partnering with her for years to come as I move into the Executive Chair role.”

Founded in 2011 by Gordon who has served as CEO for the last 15 years, Babylist surpassed $750 million in annual revenue in 2025, achieving 45% year-over-year growth and its eighth consecutive year of profitability. The company is tracking toward $1 billion in revenue in 2026. Under Gordon’s leadership, Babylist has asserted itself as the go-to platform for parenting resources, with nearly 40% of first-time parents in the United States using Babylist to navigate their parenting needs across commerce, health and financial products. The largest consumer brands have taken notice, turning to Babylist as a powerful partner and marketing channel to acquire customers who are at this pivotal stage of life. In a baby’s first year alone, families spend an average of $28,000, with more than 80% of spending in the category being deemed essential. Babylist helped more than 10 million people make purchases in 2025 alone.

While the U.S. baby and kids market represents an estimated $235 billion annually, supporting a growing family includes much more than buying essential goods. According to internal Babylist data, nearly 60% of new parents open or plan to open an investment or savings account. Babylist, which started as a universal gifting registry, has expanded into this broader ecosystem to support the additional decisions families make at every stage of parenthood. Babylist Health launched in 2022 to simplify access to insurance-covered benefits and services for new moms, and is already approaching $100M in revenue. In July 2026, Babylist launched Early Investor, a platform that makes educational gifting celebratory and effortless. The Babylist showrooms — in LA now and coming to NYC in September 2026 — are designed for in-person discovery, education, and hands-on comparison, while also serving as a content studio for creators. Time and again, Babylist has earned the trust of families by turning complex experiences into simple ones, and is now extending that proven model across the full arc of parenthood from birth to 18 years.

“I’m honored to step into the CEO role at Babylist,” said Hyman. “Spending the past several months on the Board, I’ve seen firsthand the strength of this team and the size of the opportunity ahead. Babylist has already built a trusted platform with deeply engaged families that serves a significant portion of new parents in the U.S. every year with a strong, profitable business to match. Becoming a parent is one of the only moments in adult life when the consumer is excited to change many parts of their life all at once – where they live, how they save and spend, which community and schools they choose. This makes new parents the most valuable and high-intent consumers, and Babylist has already earned their trust. In partnership with Natalie, my focus as CEO will be to accelerate and broaden Babylist as the modern parenting platform that families turn to for the decisions that matter most across health, finances, and community – and across all stages of parenthood.”

Babylist currently employs approximately 800 people across the United States. Hyman, who will be based in New York, will work closely with Gordon to ensure a smooth transition.

About Babylist

Babylist is the leading registry, e-commerce and content platform for growing families. More than 10 million people shop with Babylist every year, making it the go-to destination for seamless purchasing, trusted guidance and expert product recommendations for new parents and the people who love them.
What began as a universal registry has grown into a full ecosystem for new parents — including Babylist Health, Babylist Money, experiential showrooms, and podcasts — driving over $750 million in revenue in 2025. As we build a generational brand in baby, Babylist is reshaping the $235 billion kids and baby market by connecting growing families with everything they need to thrive and helping parents feel confident, connected, and cared for at every step.
