Zum Announces Major Investment in Philadelphia to Support Students, Families, and Local Workforce

Establishes long-term presence in Philadelphia, expands hiring, and invests in modern facilities as it prepares to serve School District of Philadelphia families

PHILADELPHIA, July 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Zum, a leader in modern student mobility, today announced a major long-term investment in Philadelphia with the lease and redevelopment of a new school bus yard that will serve as Zum’s home base as it launches home-to-school transportation services for the School District of Philadelphia.

Located at 3740 E. Thompson Street and 2715 E. Butler Street in Northeast Philadelphia, the two adjacent properties will be transformed into a modern operations and maintenance center designed to support Zum’s growing local workforce and deliver safe, reliable, and transparent student mobility for Philadelphia families. Centrally located with drivers in mind, this new yard will reduce travel time for employees while providing the infrastructure needed to support daily operations and future growth.

The investment underscores Zum’s long-term commitment to Philadelphia and represents another milestone as Zum prepares to serve students beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

“Philadelphia is more than a new market for Zum—it is a long-term partnership and a community where we plan to invest for decades to come,” said Vivek Garg, Chief Operating Officer at Zum. “We are creating local jobs, investing in modern infrastructure, and building an operation designed to serve students and families with the reliability, transparency, and accountability they deserve. This facility reflects our commitment to Philadelphia and our belief that student mobility is critical infrastructure that directly supports access to education.”

This facility will undergo significant upgrades over the coming months, including modern employee facilities, enhanced maintenance capabilities and driver amenities designed to support one of the nation’s most advanced student mobility operations.

As preparations continue for the new school year, Zum is actively hiring school bus drivers and attendants to join the Zum team and serve students across the School District of Philadelphia. Following several successful hiring events, the company is encouraging both experienced school bus drivers and individuals interested in starting a rewarding new career to apply for positions as Zum employees.

“There is no more important job than safely getting students to and from school every weekday,” said Missy Lash, General Manager at Zum. “Our investment in Philadelphia goes beyond buses—it’s an investment in the people who make student mobility possible. We want our drivers to have a modern, welcoming facility where they feel comfortable, respected, and supported every day. That’s the kind of workplace we’re building at Zum, and we invite drivers across Philadelphia to come experience the difference for themselves.”

“We are excited to welcome Zum to 3740 Thompson Street, Philadelphia, PA 19137 and 2715 East Butler Street, Philadelphia, PA 19137 and to support their growth in the Philadelphia market,” said Scott Arnoldy, CEO of Triten Real Estate Partners. “This is exactly the kind of long-term partnership we like to be a part of – helping a growing company find the space it needs to serve the local community.”

Today’s announcement reflects Zum’s broader investment in the Philadelphia economy. Beyond creating hundreds of local jobs, Zum is investing in facilities, workforce development, fleet operations, and technology that will support students and families for years to come.

Across the country, Zum serves more than 6,500 schools in 18 states through its Connected Mobility Experience (CMX), an AI-powered operating platform that connects routing, dispatch, communications, safety, workforce management, and real-time operations into a single system. NordVPN introduces transaction monitoring for bank accounts

Published

on

By

The feature alerts users about a suspicious charge in their bank account

LONDON, July 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — NordVPN’s Dark Web Monitor already alerts users when their personal data, such as passwords or card details, shows up in a breach. Transaction monitoring extends that protection to cover financial accounts directly, notifying users the moment suspicious activity is detected.

Fraud often goes unnoticed precisely because keeping track of transactions across multiple accounts is tedious. Online shopping adds more risk through compromised websites, insecure payment methods, misleading free trials, and hidden charges. The sooner a suspicious transaction is caught, the better the chances of limiting the damage.

“Most people only look at their bank statement once a month, if that. By then, a fraudulent charge has had weeks to go unnoticed,” says Domininkas Virbickas, product director at NordVPN. “Financial stress is bad enough without also having to wonder whether someone is quietly draining your account. Transaction monitoring takes that worry off the table.”

Transaction monitoring is available only for financial institutions in the United States for now, but NordVPN plans to bring it to more countries in the future. The feature is already available on Android, iOS, and Windows devices, and is coming to macOS in the following weeks.

How it works

Users connect their bank accounts through the NordVPN app using a secure third-party platform. Once a bank is selected, the user logs in to their online banking website, and grants authorization to connect selected bank accounts. No credentials are stored by NordVPN.

Once connected, the feature pulls the account’s transaction history and uses it to build a statistical profile of what normal spending looks like for that account. Every new transaction that comes in is then analyzed against that profile. If something deviates from the expected pattern, an alert is sent immediately.

Multiple accounts can be connected and monitored simultaneously, all manageable from a single place in the NordVPN web app. Alerts appear in nearly real time, and users can acknowledge or act on them directly from there. Accounts can be disconnected at any time.

ABOUT NORDVPN

NordVPN is an all-in-one digital privacy and security app trusted by millions of internet users worldwide. The NordVPN app combines the world’s most advanced VPN, a next-generation antivirus, and other built-in security features, such as Dark Web Monitor™. For more information, visit nordvpn.com.

GigaMedia Announces Second-Quarter 2026 Financial Results

Published

on

By

TAIPEI, July 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — GigaMedia Limited (NASDAQ: GIGM) today announced its second-quarter 2026 unaudited financial results.

Comments from Management

In the second quarter of 2026, GigaMedia reported revenues of $2.13 million, with a gross profit $1.24 million, an operating loss of $0.10 million, but a net income of $0.55 million.

In this quarter, we successfully carried out an IP collaboration for a licensed game we operated in Hong Kong. With this success, we have achieved a significant increase in revenues. As a result, our operating loss reduced from $0.95 million to $0.10 million quarter-on-quarter.

Currently we focused on cultivating the customer base brought by this successful IP collaboration to build a solid groundwork for our future growth.

Meanwhile, in this quarter, we also successfully converted and settled our holdings of the corporate bonds of Aeolus Robotics Corporation (“Aeolus”) into its preferred shares at advantageous prices. As a result of the conversion and settlement, we currently hold 33.35% of its ownership voting rights, and thereby account for it under the equity-method.

Aeolus is an R&D company engaged in developing AI-enabled service robots, specifically in elderly-care, night shift patrol and disinfection. We believe the strategic investment in this robotics company will position our company for a broader industry outlook, and open up vast business opportunities.

Second Quarter Overview

Operating revenues increased significantly by approximately 182.3% quarter-on-quarter, from $0.75 million in last quarter, and by 144.9% year-over-year from $0.87 million the same period last year.Gross profit increased by 197.1% to $1.24 million from $0.42 million in last quarter, and increased by 159.7% compared to $0.48 million in the same period last year.Investments in Aeolus were reclassified from available-for-sale to equity-method investment upon the conversion and settlement mentioned above. Considering the advantageous conversion and settlement prices, previous adjustments recorded in other comprehensive loss were reversed. As a result, the book value of the investment increased from $8.17 million to $12.67 million at the end of this quarter, and a deemed disposal gain of $0.37 million was recognized. The net asset value was $3.69 per share.

with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”). (See, “Use of Non-GAAP Measures,” for more details.)

Second-Quarter Financial Results

Consolidated revenues for the second quarter of 2026 increased significantly by 182.3% quarter-on-quarter from $0.75 million in last quarter, and by 144.9% year-over-year from $0.87 million the same period last year.Consolidated gross profit was $1.24 million, increased by 197.1% quarter-on-quarter and by 159.7% year-over-year.Consolidated loss from operation of the second quarter of 2026 was $0.10 million, improved from $0.95 million in the first quarter.Non-operating income from operation of the second quarter of 2026 was $0.65 million, improved from $0.07 million in the first quarter, mainly due to a deemed disposal gain of $0.37 million upon the reclassification of Aeolus investments from available-for-sale to equity-method investment.Net income in the second quarter of 2026 was $0.55 million, improved from a net loss of $0.88 million in the first quarter.Cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash at the end of the second quarter of 2026 amounted to $29.0 million, increased by 3.7% from $28.0 million as of the end of the first quarter.

Financial Position

GigaMedia maintained its solid financial position, with cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash amounted to $29.0 million, or $2.63 per share, as of June 30, 2026.

Business Outlook

The following forward-looking statements reflect GigaMedia’s expectations as of July 31, 2026. Given potential changes in economic conditions and consumer spending, the evolving nature of digital entertainments, and various other risk factors, including those discussed in the Company’s 2025 Annual Report on Form 20-F filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as referenced below, actual results may differ materially.

“In the second half of 2026, we will dedicate ourselves to sustaining the momentum from this quarter’s success and deepening engagement with the customer base to fuel our future growth,” stated GigaMedia CEO James Huang.

As for new business, our management continues evaluating and pursuing prospects of strategic investment targets that are with potential to expand our business and create greater shareholder value.

Use of Non-GAAP Measures

To supplement GigaMedia’s consolidated financial statements presented in accordance with US GAAP, the Company uses the following measure defined as non-GAAP by the SEC: EBITDA. Management believes that EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) is a useful supplemental measure of performance because it excludes certain non-cash items such as depreciation and amortization and that EBITDA is a measure of performance used by some investors, equity analysts and others to make informed investment decisions. EBITDA is not a recognized earnings measure under GAAP and does not have a standardized meaning. Non-GAAP measures such as EBITDA should be considered in addition to results prepared in accordance with GAAP, but should not be considered a substitute for, or superior to, other financial measures prepared in accordance with GAAP. A limitation of using EBITDA is that it does not include all items that impact the company’s net income for the period. Reconciliations to the GAAP equivalents of the non-GAAP financial measures are provided on the attached unaudited financial statements.
