Corporate Technologies Publishes Q2 2026 SMB Technology & Cyber Resilience Index, Built on Operational Data From ~1,700 Managed Businesses

Published

on

New edition finds 96% of ransomware victims are small and mid-sized businesses and that tested backup recovery remains the widest gap, even as the managed client base absorbed 9.19 billion security events with zero ransomware detonations.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Aug. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Corporate Technologies, a managed IT, cybersecurity, and cloud services provider serving small and mid-sized businesses since 1981, today released the Q2 2026 edition of its SMB Technology & Cyber Resilience Index, an operational benchmark of small-business IT resilience drawn from platform instrumentation across roughly 1,700 managed businesses rather than from self-reported surveys.

The report is built to close a gap the company argues defines the SMB technology market: the distance between how secure businesses believe they are and what their operational data shows. Veeam’s 2026 research found that 90% of security leaders are confident they can recover from an attack, while only 28% of organizations hit by ransomware actually restore their data in full.

Among the Q2 2026 findings:

Across the managed client base, the environment absorbed 9.19 billion analyzed security events over the quarter, producing 215 verified incidents and zero ransomware detonations.A typical managed client experienced approximately 2.6 hours of unplanned downtime for the year, against a 14-hour industry average, with critical issues resolved in an average of 8.5 hours.Documented recovery objectives and tested backup restores held at just 5% of clients, unchanged across two editions and identified as the single widest gap in the index. The report also recalibrated its patch-compliance measure to a stricter, device-level standard, which read 65.3% where a legacy roll-up had reported 94%, a change the company published in full rather than omit.

The edition also documents the shift to identity-based attacks. Citing Sophos and Verizon research, the report notes that 79% of ransomware attacks now begin with a compromised identity, and that where victim size was known, 96% of ransomware victims were small and mid-sized businesses.

“Most SMBs don’t lack awareness, but measurement,” said Jim Griffith, CEO of Corporate Technologies. “This index exists to replace assumptions with operational evidence, and to give business owners a benchmark they can actually act on.”

“The uncomfortable part of instrumenting everything is that the numbers get worse before they get better,” said Ben Silver, Chief Operating Officer of Corporate Technologies. “A device-level patch assessment will always read lower than a policy roll-up. We publish the stricter number because that’s the one an attacker interacts with.”

The Q2 2026 edition spans five pillars, availability and downtime, backup and disaster recovery readiness, cyber resilience, operational maturity, and financial impact, with each figure sourced and every retired or unverifiable statistic disclosed. Business owners can download the full report to benchmark their own environment. Current and prior editions are available on the SMB Technology & Cyber Resilience Index resource page.

Accounting Expert Tracey Rink Explains Outsourced CFO Services in HelloNation

Published

The article explains how businesses can determine whether controller support, outsourced CFO guidance, or both best fit their financial needs.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Aug. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The article explains that businesses often reach a point where their financial needs extend beyond accurate bookkeeping and reporting. As companies grow, leadership must evaluate whether existing accounting support continues to meet operational demands or requires additional strategic financial guidance. Understanding the distinct responsibilities of a controller and an outsourced CFO helps business owners choose the level of financial expertise that aligns with both current operations and future goals.

According to the HelloNation article, a controller focuses on maintaining accurate financial reporting and strengthening internal controls throughout the organization. This role oversees accounting processes, monthly and annual closing procedures, compliance requirements, and the preparation of reliable financial statements. The article notes that dependable financial reporting gives business owners confidence that the information guiding daily decisions is accurate and complete.

The article contrasts this with the responsibilities of an outsourced CFO. Rather than concentrating primarily on historical financial information, outsourced CFO services emphasize future planning. Financial forecasting, budgeting, profitability analysis, financing strategies, and long-term cash flow planning all help businesses prepare for growth and changing economic conditions. The article explains that while a controller documents where the business has been financially, an outsourced CFO helps leadership determine where the business is headed.

The HelloNation article also describes how financial needs often evolve alongside business growth. Expanding into new markets, opening additional locations, hiring larger teams, or introducing new products creates more complex financial decisions. According to the article, these situations frequently require strategic planning that goes beyond maintaining accurate accounting records. Accounting Expert Tracey Rink explains in the article that financial leadership becomes increasingly valuable as organizations face more sophisticated operational and investment decisions.

Cash flow management is another area where outsourced CFO services can provide meaningful support. The article explains that even profitable companies may encounter cash flow challenges during periods of rapid expansion. Financial forecasting allows business leaders to anticipate future cash requirements, evaluate financing options, and prepare for seasonal fluctuations before they disrupt operations. This proactive approach helps organizations identify risks early while supporting informed decision-making.

The article also discusses major business milestones that often benefit from higher-level financial guidance. Preparing for bank financing, attracting investors, planning ownership transitions, or evaluating mergers requires careful financial modeling and strategic planning. According to the article, these situations call for financial leadership that connects day-to-day operations with broader business objectives while supporting long-term success.

Rather than presenting the two positions as competing roles, the HelloNation article emphasizes that controllers and outsourced CFO professionals frequently work together. Controllers maintain accurate financial reporting, oversee accounting operations, and reinforce internal controls. Meanwhile, outsourced CFO services use those reliable financial records to guide strategic planning, improve cash flow management, and support executive decision-making. This partnership provides business owners with both operational accuracy and forward-looking financial insight.

Ultimately, the article concludes that selecting the right financial support depends on a company’s reporting requirements, operational complexity, growth strategy, and leadership priorities. Evaluating both current needs and future objectives helps organizations determine whether controller support, outsourced CFO guidance, or a combination of both offers the strongest foundation for continued success.

Outsourced CFO vs. Controller: What Does Your Business Need? Features insights from Tracey Rink, Accounting Expert of Rochester, New York, in HelloNation.
