Cannabis Businesses Seek Broader Access to Financial Services as Federal Policy Shifts

Published

on

SEATTLE, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Cannabis businesses are looking to their financial institutions for more than basic banking services, with strong demand for credit, payments, and other traditional financial products, according to new findings from Shield Compliance’s 2026 Cannabis Industry Banking Satisfaction Survey, released today at the PBC Conference. The findings come as licensed operators prepare for significant changes in federal cannabis and hemp policy.

Key Findings

Rescheduling is expected to have a significant financial impact. Nearly three-quarters (73%) of respondents said federal rescheduling is “very likely” or “likely” to affect their business. Respondents want guidance on changes to banking requirements and taxes, as well as greater access to lines of credit, lending, and payment services.Hemp policy changes will affect some businesses substantially. Nearly 40% said closing the intoxicating hemp loophole would affect their business a moderate amount or more. Some anticipate reformulating products or changing product lines, while others expect reduced competition from unregulated products and a stronger licensed cannabis market.Access to credit remains a challenge. Only about 5% of respondents said commercial credit is readily available, while 45% said it is somewhat available, and 38% said it is not available. Demand for operating lines of credit (74%), equipment financing (57%), and real estate loans (55%) remains strong.Businesses want more banking services. Respondents expressed demand for B2B payments, money market or savings accounts, retail payments, and payroll services.Banking relationships mature and improve. Favorable satisfaction increased to 92%, up from 84% in 2025, while the percentage of respondents who are likely to change financial institutions in the next 12 months fell from 23% to 12%.

“One of the clearest themes from this year’s survey is that personal service continues to drive customer loyalty,” said Tony Repanich, President and CEO of Shield Compliance. “Operators cited responsive relationship managers and industry expertise as the primary reasons they stay with their financial institutions. While product expansion and credit access remain important opportunities, strong relationships and knowledgeable support are still the foundation of successful cannabis banking.”

Financial Pressures Remain Top of Mind

Despite optimism about the industry’s future, operators continue to face significant financial pressures. Cash flow and profitability are their top concerns, followed by access to credit and regulatory compliance. At the same time, 51% expect cannabis industry profitability to be better or much better over the next two to three years.

Published

By

DENVER, Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Evergreen Digital Media Corp. (EDM), a premier operator of digital signage and retail media networks, and Adwave Digital Inc. (Adwave), a technology company that operates an AI-powered advertising platform, have finalized a strategic partnership in which EDM will provide capital to facilitate the continued development of Adwave’s AI platform. EDM will also receive a preferred licensing agreement to the platform as part of the agreement.

Adwave’s WaveRunner platform buys and runs ad campaigns across streaming TV, Google, Meta, Reddit, and the web from a single daily budget, optimizing placement using a business’s own site data, without requiring an agency or separate accounts for each channel.

This is EDM’s third strategic investment in the past year, but a different type of deal. The earlier investments brought new screen networks into EDM’s fold. In this partnership, EDM obtains rights to run Adwave’s AI ad-buying technology directly, without taking on another network to operate.

“Adwave brings a level of talent and technical knowledge in the advertising AI space that’s rare to find,” said Don Winfrey, CEO of Evergreen Digital Media Corp. “We’re excited to learn from this team as we bring that expertise into our networks.”

“EDM has built something real in the DOOH space, and we’re glad to be working alongside a team with that kind of reach,” said David Naffis, CEO of Adwave. “We’re looking forward to what this partnership produces.”

About Evergreen Digital Media Corp. Evergreen Digital Media Corp. (EDM) is the parent company of NTV360, N-Compass TV and OnPremise Networks. Collectively, these entities operate uniquely through a network of exclusive local dealers calling on local advertisers in the Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) sector, delivering digital signage, content and local marketing opportunities to communities throughout the United States and Canada.

About Adwave Digital Inc. Adwave is an AI-powered advertising platform. Its WaveRunner product buys and runs cross-channel ad campaigns, spanning streaming TV, social, video, and display, from a single daily budget. More information is available at waverunner.adwave.com.

Knowesis Achieves CMMC Level 2 Certification, Reinforcing Its Commitment to Defense Cybersecurity

Published

on

By

FAIRFAX, Va., Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Knowesis announced today that it has successfully completed its Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2 assessment. The certification confirms that Knowesis’ CMMC assessment scope satisfies the Level 2 requirements for protecting Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).

CMMC Level 2 requires organizations to implement all 110 security requirements in NIST 800-171, Revision 2, across 14 security requirement families. Achieving this level demands more than a technical upgrade. Contractors must develop extensive documentation, including a System Security Plan that often grows three to five times longer than the plans required at lower certification tiers, and they must submit to a third-party assessment conducted by a Certified Third-Party Assessment Organization, or C3PAO.

On July 13, 2026, the Department of War (DoW) suspended the rollout of CMMC Phase II, which would have made third-party C3PAO audits mandatory, and launched a 60-day review of the program. Phase I self-assessment requirements and annual affirmations remain in effect, and officials have encouraged contractors already pursuing Level 2 certification to continue their efforts as the department works toward a reformed, resumed timeline.

Knowesis ranked highly in its evaluation scoring and was readily approved for certification by the third party evaluation body. By completing its Level 2 assessment ahead of this reform period, Knowesis positions itself as a trusted partner for federal agencies and prime contractors that need proven, audit-ready cybersecurity practices now. The certification builds on Knowesis’ existing security posture, which includes its ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems registration, and ISO 27001:2022 Information Security Systems registration.

Knowesis views the achievement of CMMC Level 2 certification as a reflection of the discipline and commitment invested in building cybersecurity practices capable of withstanding independent, third-party assessment. As the DoW reviews the future implementation of the CMMC program, Knowesis has already demonstrated that its CMMC environment meets the Level 2 requirements for protecting CUI. The certification provides customers and partners with added assurance that Knowesis is prepared to protect sensitive information and securely support missions involving CUI.

Knowesis is a Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE) certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) and a certified Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB), providing a full range of professional consulting services to federal and state government agencies to include Scientific and Medical Research, Data and Computational Science, Information Management  and Technology, Operations and Management, Strategic Communications, and Policy and Program Evaluation. We currently support multiple entities within the Departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services.

Knowesis maintains offices in Fairfax, Virginia, with staff at locations across the United States. More information about the company can be found at https://www.knowesis-inc.com/ as well as on LinkedIn.
