Pulse Radiology Institute and DeVry University Partner to Address Nationwide MRI Technologist Shortage

Published

By

WAUKESHA, Wis., Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A nationwide shortage of medical imaging professionals has prompted DeVry University and the Pulse Radiology Institute, an Edcetera company, to partner on a new MRI Technology Associate degree specialization. The hybrid program will combine DeVry University’s coursework with the clinical training model and nationwide partner network of the Pulse Radiology Institute to help address a 17.4% MRI technologist vacancy rate — a near-record high per the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

Access to clinical placements remains a key constraint on the MRI technologist pipeline because imaging sites have limited capacity to host trainees and many programs leave students to find placements on their own. In the new DeVry University program, students will enroll after placement is secured, starting with online coursework before moving into hands-on clinical experience by the third semester.

“The demand for skilled MRI technologists is creating both a workforce challenge and meaningful career opportunities,” said Jason Horne, DeVry University’s chief strategy and transformation officer. “By combining DeVry’s technology-approach to education with Pulse Radiology Institute’s clinical training model and partner network, we aim to equip students with the skills and hands-on experience employers are seeking while preparing them to succeed in this growing field.”

“This partnership reflects our mission to help professionals advance in licensed careers,” said Nader Qaimari, CEO of Edcetera. “This is exactly the kind of workforce gap we exist to close, and DeVry is the right partner to take the program nationwide.”

As of June 30, 2025, the Pulse Radiology Institute reported a 95% registry exam pass rate, 92% retention rate and 74% on-time graduation rate. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 8% job growth for MRI technologists through 2035, nearly triple the average for all occupations, with median pay of $95,480.*

DeVry University’s new associate degree specialization in MRI Technology is subject to applicable regulatory, institutional and certification-related approvals. Accreditation is pending. Prospective students and clinical partners can learn more at https://edcet.com/devry-mri-tech/.

ADLM calls for CLIA updates to help ensure safe and reliable use of AI in laboratory medicine

Published

on

By

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine (ADLM) has submitted comments in response to a federal request for information regarding potential updates to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), which are a set of regulatory standards that govern all clinical laboratory testing in the U.S. In the comment letter, ADLM recommends that, under CLIA, emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools should remain subject to the same professional expertise, quality systems, validation requirements, and monitoring standards that apply to traditional laboratory testing.

Read the full comment letter: https://myadlm.org/advocacy-and-outreach/Comment-Letters/2026/clia-rfi

Clinical laboratory testing has advanced significantly since CLIA was first implemented in 1992, and one of the biggest recent developments in the field is the growing use of AI. Traditional software has long supported high-quality laboratory testing by performing functions such as verifying, interpreting, and reporting results, and newer technologies such as AI and machine learning are playing an increasingly integral role in many of these same areas. However, AI-based tools introduce new modes of failure and safety issues that the current CLIA framework does not address. For example, an error in conventional software generally affects every patient case that meets the same programmed conditions and can be evaluated using cases with known expected outputs. An AI-based model, on the other hand, may produce case-specific errors, making it more difficult to troubleshoot the problem. Generative AI can also produce inaccurate or unsupported information, omit clinically important facts, or change behavior following updates to the model, prompt, or knowledge base.

As AI-based tools become more prevalent in laboratory medicine, ADLM recommends making targeted updates to CLIA that reflect the new challenges that accompany these technologies. Highlights of the recommendations in ADLM’s comment letter include the following:

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the two agencies that support CLIA) should establish federal oversight for AI-based tools that avoids unnecessary duplication. Specifically, the Food and Drug Administration may regulate particular software products or medical devices, while CLIA governs the laboratory’s responsibility for accurate and reliable testing.CLIA should distinguish between conventional software and AI models. Laboratories should also account for the differences in how traditional software and learned models perform when validating and monitoring their performance.CLIA should adopt a risk-based, technology-appropriate approach that establishes clear quality expectations for AI-based tools while preserving the ability of laboratory directors and qualified laboratory professionals to determine scientifically appropriate methods for meeting these expectations. When a facility independently analyzes patient-specific laboratory data or provides specialized laboratory interpretation that generates or helps generate a test result or interpretation for clinical use, those activities are part of the total testing process and should be subject to appropriate CLIA oversight.

Overall, ADLM’s comments emphasize that AI-based tools should be evaluated as part of the total testing process within CLIA’s existing framework rather than treated as standalone software tools that require the creation of a separate regulatory structure.

“AI has the potential to support tremendous advances in laboratory medicine, but innovation in this area must be balanced with the need to ensure test quality and patient safety,” said ADLM President Dr. Stanley F. Lo. “Laboratories have the expertise and quality systems needed to evaluate, implement, and continuously monitor AI tools, making continued laboratory oversight essential to the responsible use of AI in clinical laboratory testing.”

TCC Solutions® Celebrates 30 Years of Turning Complexity into Better Systems

Three decades of experience have shaped TCC Solutions into a specialized technology and consulting partner for state agencies and organizations that administer early care and education programs.

INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — TCC Solutions®, an early childhood technology and consulting company, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026. For three decades, TCC Solutions has partnered with government agencies and other organizations responsible for administering early care and education programs, helping them manage the policies, data and technology involved in running those programs and building systems that serve providers, professionals and families more effectively.

Founded in 1996, TCC Solutions began by providing technology and consulting services to organizations within human services. As the company evolved, it built an increasingly deep specialization in early care and education, pairing technology expertise with firsthand knowledge of the programs, policies, data and operational realities that shape the field.

That specialization led to Ascend®, TCC Solutions’ configurable early childhood technology platform. Ascend gives agencies modern technology and integrated data capabilities that support core functions across the early education ecosystem, including: CCDF subsidy and Pre-k, child care licensing, workforce registry and training, Quality Rating and Improvement Systems (QRIS), and data and analytics solutions that connect information across systems and programs. Alongside Ascend, TCC Solutions provides program integrity initiatives and specialized consulting and professional services that help agencies put that technology to work within their specific programs.

“Our roots taught us early that technology is only one part of solving a complex problem,” said Breht Feigh, President and CEO of TCC Solutions. “Over 30 years, we’ve continued to learn, evolve and deepen our expertise in early care and education. We understand the technology, but we also understand the programs, policies and people behind it. That combination has shaped who we are and how we work with our clients today.”

As TCC Solutions enters its fourth decade, the company is focused on helping early care and education agencies respond to what comes next, from evolving policy and funding requirements to growing expectations for integrated data, interoperability, program accountability and easier experiences for the families, providers and professionals these systems serve.

That future will include continued investment in Ascend® and TCC Solutions’ technology capabilities, as well as the specialized consulting, data and subject-matter expertise agencies need to turn technology into meaningful progress.

“The next chapter for TCC is really about building on what 30 years has taught us while continuing to evolve alongside the agencies and people we serve,” said Melanie Brizzi, Vice President and Chief Growth Officer at TCC Solutions. “Technology will continue to change, policies will change and the needs of states and communities will change. Our opportunity is to bring the technology, expertise and partnership together in ways that help our clients respond to that change and build stronger systems for providers, professionals, families and children.”

Throughout its 30th anniversary year, TCC Solutions will celebrate the clients, employees and partners who have contributed to its journey while sharing perspectives on the challenges, innovations and opportunities shaping the future of early care and education.
