100 Days Until Christmas: The Great Christmas Hypocrisy – Brits Say They’re Organised, But Most Won’t Finish Shopping Until December

Published

on

LONDON, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — With 100 days to go until Christmas, Brits might like to think of themselves as organised when it comes to the festive season – but new research suggests we could actually be a nation of “organised procrastinators”. New research from British fashion brand FatFace, surveying more than 2,000 UK adults, reveals a gap between our desire to get ahead and when we actually get Christmas sorted.

Almost half (48%) of those who celebrate Christmas say they either love being organised and having everything sorted early (13%), or like being prepared because it makes Christmas less stressful (35%). Yet across the nation, three quarters (75%) expect to finish their Christmas shopping in December.

More than half (54%) expect to finish their shopping in early or mid-December, while one in five (22%) expect to still be shopping during the final week before Christmas or on Christmas Eve.

And even once the presents have been bought, there’s one festive job Brits are particularly guilty of putting off. More than half (52%) admit they usually leave wrapping presents until the last minute, making it Britain’s most commonly delayed Christmas task.

The Christmas countdown is already underway for millions of Brits. With 100 days still to go, one in five (19%) that celebrate Christmas have already started their Christmas preparations or plan to start in September, while another 15% will get organised from October. That means more than a third (34%) will have started preparing before November.

FatFace’s own customer search data suggests Christmas is already creeping onto shoppers’ minds at the 100-day mark, too. Last year, “Christmas” jumped from the brand’s 45th most-searched term to its number-one search term during the week of its 100 Days of Christmas launch. But while Brits may be thinking about Christmas months in advance, getting started is no guarantee of getting everything ticked off early.FatFace is helping customers take the stress out of Christmas by making it easier to get ahead, with gifting ideas and festive fashion for every kind of celebration. But for a nation of organised procrastinators, there’s no judgement for leaving it late either – whether it’s a last-minute gift, a Christmas jumper or something to wear on the big day.

50+ Leading Organizations Launch Coalition for Pro-Human AI

New effort provides infrastructure and resources to shift AI toward
human control and ensure its benefits are widely shared.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — More than 50 leading organizations spanning technology, policy, research, investment, philanthropy, and movement-building today announced the Pro-Human AI Coalition, a global effort that brings urgently needed infrastructure and resources to the work of keeping AI under human control and prioritizing public interest over corporate profit.

The launch follows an extraordinary week in which AI researchers resigned over safety concerns, new details emerged about AI agents conspiring to evade safeguards, and the industry’s own leaders called for slowing the pace of AI development. The Coalition will not only work for better policy to keep AI under human control, but also address foundational questions around who benefits from the technology.

Established as an independent nonprofit institution and co-founded by Project Liberty, Future of Life Institute, and Ergo Impact, The Coalition’s steering committee includes Mila, the world’s largest academic AI research institute, and Omidyar Network, a leading philanthropic investment firm.

“The last generation of digital technology was designed to connect people. Instead, over time, it pulled us apart, harvested our data, and extracted our humanity for profit. We can’t allow that to happen again,” said Frank McCourt, founder of Project Liberty and a co-founder of the Coalition. “AI is technology powered by all our collective data and creativity. Humanity deserves a say in who owns it, who governs it, and who benefits from it. The answers shouldn’t be dictated by a handful of powerful companies. Policy can help answer some of those questions. We also urgently need to address the underlying architecture of AI systems. We need AI that’s designed for human agency and flourishing. Challenging a broken AI status quo is the work of the Coalition.”

“The response to the Coalition has been extraordinary because the need is extraordinary,” said Tomicah Tillemann, CEO of the Pro-Human AI Coalition. “Over fifty leading organizations on four continents, across the political spectrum, have come together in a few months to give humanity a seat at the table. We invite everyone who wants to transform concern about AI into concrete action to join in support of this work.”

The Coalition runs on high-trust guidelines that let members share intelligence, move capital rapidly, and access world-class shared services including news aggregation, public opinion research, ecosystem mapping, and event coordination. These systems are already up and running. The Coalition is also supporting fourteen strategic field-building projects, including a U.S. policy and legislative tracker covering more than 500 state and federal tech bills. Its active workstreams target five centers of power: the Pro-Human AI Stack, Policy, Middle Powers Collaboration, Narrative Intelligence, and Markets Shaping & Economic Impact.

“The industry is racing to combine intelligence, generality, and autonomy in one system, and that combination has only ever existed in humans,” said Anthony Aguirre, CEO of the Future of Life Institute and a co-founder of the Coalition. “We can build enormously capable AI without it. The reason this Coalition exists is to help build and shape that safer, better alternative.”

In the U.S., Coalition members have already enacted bipartisan legislation pushing for more responsible AI in five states: Utah, California, Ohio, Connecticut, and South Dakota. Additional Coalition-aligned bills are advancing in New York, Virginia, and other jurisdictions ahead of legislative sessions that open in January. The Coalition’s membership is cross-ideological, so that its work can move forward regardless of which party holds power in Washington or throughout the nation.

The Coalition is also developing cornerstone policy deliverables for the Geneva AI Summit, a global convening, in June 2027, covering data portability, interoperability, agent transparency and duty of loyalty, child and teen safety, privacy, creator protection, procurement standards, developer liability, and anti-lock-in enforcement.

“No change of this scale has ever happened without leading organizations in their respective fields pooling their power,” said Lara Galinsky, the Coalition’s Executive Director. “None of the outcomes we’re concerned about with AI are inevitable. They result from choices we make today, and changing track takes exactly the kind of coordination this Coalition provides.”

Coalition leaders announced the initiative at the Pro-Human Assembly, a gathering of more than 400 policymakers, cultural leaders, and advocates, led by the Future of Life Institute.

New specialized and agentic AI across Autodesk Forma, Autodesk Fusion, and Autodesk Flow turns connected industry data and project context into project intelligence customers can act on

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — At Autodesk University 2026, Autodesk (NASDAQ: ADSK) previewed new agentic AI across its three industry clouds: Autodesk Forma for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction; Autodesk Fusion for Design and Manufacturing; and Autodesk Flow for Media and Entertainment. Together, these new capabilities are shaping the next generation of Autodesk Assistant, extending Autodesk’s agentic AI experience across products, projects, and teams rather than inside a single tool, and drawing on connected project data to understand not just the question being asked, but the project behind it.

Autodesk Assistant is generally available today across many Autodesk products, including Fusion, Forma, and Flow, where it helps customers work with Autodesk AI inside the tools they already use. The next-generation experience extends beyond any single product. Rather than requiring professionals to know which Autodesk product or AI capability to reach for, the next generation experience starts from what they are trying to accomplish, brings forward the relevant information and capabilities, and keeps professionals in control.

This next-generation experience is designed to connect project intelligence with the right Autodesk capabilities across products, projects, and teams, including through a standalone experience planned for 2027.

“The constraint in our industries has never been about ideas. It’s capacity,” said Andrew Anagnost, president and CEO of Autodesk. “And for Design and Make professionals, ‘probably right’ is wrong because their work has consequences in the real world. Our three industry clouds, Forma, Fusion, and Flow, connect the people, data and workflows that make industries work. Autodesk Assistant is how we bring intelligence to customers today, and the next generation will extend that experience across products, projects and teams. And because that intelligence is grounded in more than four decades of Autodesk industry expertise, we can bring customers the right capabilities at the right moment, so they can focus on the problem they need to solve, not the product they need to solve it.”

Autodesk’s advantage is not just understanding what a customer is trying to do. It is combining project intelligence with the specialized design, engineering, simulation, manufacturing, and production capabilities required to turn intent into trusted, real-world outcomes. General-purpose AI can reason across many kinds of information; Autodesk can ground that reasoning in the geometry, constraints, physics, processes, and project history that determine whether something can actually be designed, built, manufactured, or produced.

Why project context and industry expertise matter

Design and Make AI has to do something harder: understand the specialized context and constraints of real-world projects, such as buildings, infrastructure, products, manufacturing processes, characters, scenes, schedules, specifications, and the relationships between all of them.

Autodesk’s three industry clouds supply that context. Forma connects data and workflows across architecture, engineering and construction. Fusion connects design and manufacturing. Flow connects media and entertainment. Together with more than four decades of Autodesk industry expertise, they create what the company calls project intelligence: actionable intelligence drawn from connected project data, industry context and AI.

The difference becomes tangible when something changes. Consider a structural change to a building. The next generation of Assistant can understand that change in the context of the project, identify its downstream impacts on fabrication, schedule, cost, construction sequencing, and operations, and bring forward the Autodesk capabilities needed to act. Instead of simply describing the problem, Assistant can connect project intelligence to the precise design, engineering, and production tools teams rely on to evaluate options and move toward a trusted, buildable outcome.

“Project teams don’t work in one tool or one part of a project, and the next generation of Autodesk Assistant reflects that,” said Marius Jablonskis, Digital Transformation Leader at Norconsult, a pan-Nordic interdisciplinary consulting firm that specializes in engineering, architecture, and digital expertise. “The potential is to bring the right project context into the workflow so teams can understand what needs attention and act on it more easily. We also see real value in being able to bring our own tools and intelligence into the experience alongside Autodesk’s.”

What the next generation of Autodesk Assistant does

The next-generation Assistant is built around three priorities:

Understand what needs attention. Personal Pulse surfaces prioritized issues and insights across projects. Assistant Spaces gives teams and their agents a focused environment to investigate a problem, collaborate on it, and see its downstream effects.Act across workflows. Assistant brings Autodesk’s specialized design, engineering, and creative AI together with the precise capabilities professionals rely on to simulate, manufacture, and produce their work, turning intent into trusted, reviewable outcomes through natural-language and voice interaction.Bring your own intelligence. Assistant Builder lets customers connect their own AI agents, tools and trusted partner services to Autodesk project context, with support planned for third-party agents from the Design & Make Marketplace.

Behind the experience, Autodesk AI Orchestrator evaluates models based on the needs of a particular task, including accuracy, speed, security, and cost, allowing Autodesk to draw on different forms of intelligence rather than relying on a single model for every problem.

The result is an intelligence layer that connects reasoning with action across Autodesk’s Design and Make Platform and industry clouds. It combines project intelligence with the specialized AI and precise capabilities customers rely on to turn ideas into real-world outcomes. Autodesk Assistant is available inside products customers use today and will extend across products, projects, and teams through the next generation of Assistant.

Built for professional work

Autodesk Assistant is grounded in actual project context and, like every Autodesk AI capability, is evaluated for data integrity, privacy and risk. Autodesk publishes AI Transparency Cards for Autodesk Assistant, covering the data and technologies used, safeguards, and known limitations. Autodesk Assistant is designed to support professional judgment, with appropriate controls and human oversight.

In Autodesk’s 2027 State of Design & Make Report, 70% of Design and Make leaders and experts surveyed said they expect AI to reduce mundane and repetitive work and give them added capacity to focus on the judgment, creativity and expertise the work actually requires.

Availability

Autodesk Assistant is already available today within Autodesk industry clouds and across many Autodesk products, including Fusion, Forma, and Flow. Autodesk is previewing the expanded nextgeneration experience at AU 2026. The next-generation experience is not yet generally available.

Availability, rollout timing, subscription terms, and regional details for these next-generation capabilities will be announced in 2027.

Newest solar connected battery facility in Macon-Bibb County adds 128 MW of storage to grid

ATLANTA, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Georgia Power leaders recently joined state and local officials and leaders from Robins Air Force Base to celebrate the commercial operation of the Robins Battery Facility, a 128-megawatt (MW) battery energy storage system (BESS) located near Warner Robins, Ga. The facility can deliver stored energy to the grid for up to four hours, enhancing grid reliability and flexibility. Paired with the nearby Robins Solar Facility, the battery system strengthens energy resilience and helps support Georgia’s continued growth.

Robins Air Force Base Col. Johari Hemphill, Sen. Larry Walker, Sen. David Lucas, Sen. Steven McNeel, Rep. Anissa Jones, Central Georgia Joint Development Authority Chairman James Vaughn, Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller and other community leaders joined Georgia Power executives to celebrate the commercial operation of the Robins Battery Facility. The event reflected the strong partnerships that helped bring the project to life and highlighted its role in strengthening Georgia’s energy infrastructure while supporting economic growth and investment in Macon-Bibb County.

“Seeing the Robins Battery Facility enter commercial operation is an important milestone for Georgia Power and for the future of energy in our state,” said Rick Anderson, senior vice president and senior production officer for Georgia Power. “By pairing battery storage with solar generation, we’re creating a more flexible and resilient grid that can respond to customer needs during periods of peak demand while supporting Georgia’s continued growth. Projects like this demonstrate how we are thoughtfully investing in innovative technologies and working alongside strong community and industry partners to deliver reliable, affordable energy for decades to come.”

At the 128 MW Robins Solar and Battery Facility, battery energy storage captures renewable energy during periods of lower customer demand and stores it for use when demand is higher, such as on cold winter mornings or during peak energy use. By pairing solar generation with battery storage, the facility provides greater flexibility and reliability while supporting Georgia’s growing energy needs.

The project is part of Georgia Power’s broader strategy to add cost-effective energy resources through the Georgia Public Service Commission’s (PSC) Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) process. Burns & McDonnell served as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the Robins Battery Facility and delivered the project on schedule.

Expanding Battery Storage Across Georgia
The Robins Battery Facility is one of four battery energy storage projects approved in the 2023 IRP Update. Georgia Power has completed battery storage facilities in Cherokee and Lowndes counties totaling 579.5 MW and is nearing completion of a 57.5 MW facility in Floyd County.

The PSC has also approved nine additional BESS facilities across eight sites statewide, adding more than 3,000 MW of energy storage capacity. Sites were selected based on their ability to efficiently support grid operations, including proximity to existing infrastructure, substations and company-owned properties. Planned facilities include locations at Plants Bowen, Hammond, McIntosh, Wansley and Yates, as well as stand-alone sites in Hall and McDuffie counties.

To help meet growing energy needs, Georgia Power has also received approval for two solar facilities paired with battery storage, providing a combined 350 MW of generating capacity. These projects are designed to maximize solar production while minimizing land impacts. The new solar-plus-storage facilities will be located in Laurens and Mitchell counties.
