New IBM CHRO Study: AI Puts Critical Thinking at the Center of Workforce Priorities

Published

on

60% of employees worry AI is eroding their skills, with critical thinking cited most often as decliningNearly half of organizations do not involve the CHRO when AI strategy is being defined

ARMONK, N.Y., Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A new global study from the IBM (NYSE: IBM) Institute for Business Value points to a disconnect between the skills Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs) say AI requires and those employees prioritize. While 71% of CHROs identify the ability to supervise, validate and override AI outputs as the workforce’s most essential skill, only 29% of employees rank judgment as important.

The study,* which surveyed 1,500 CHROs and 8,800 employees globally, finds that 60% of employees worry about skills erosion, with critical thinking cited most often as declining. At the same time, CHROs identify critical thinking (57%) and human judgment (48%) as among the workforce’s most important capabilities.

The findings also show that organizations creating the greatest value from AI are redesigning work, decision-making and workforce capabilities around people and technology. Organizations that clearly define workflows as human-led, AI-assisted or AI-executed report achieving 18% risk reduction and 20% quality improvement. Yet, nearly half (46%) of organizations do not involve the CHRO when AI strategy is being defined.

“AI is changing not only how work gets done, but where people can contribute the greatest value,” said Nickle LaMoreaux, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, IBM. “As AI takes on more routine and process-driven tasks, uniquely human capabilities become even more important. CHROs have a critical role to play in redesigning the workplace of the future so people can focus on the areas where they can have the greatest impact.”

Other key findings from the study include:

Concerns about skills erosion reinforce the importance of judgment and critical thinking

Among employees who worry about skills erosion, three out of four say AI has already begun to erode at least some of their skills.Skills erosion ranks among CHROs’ top concerns, cited by 46% of respondents. 49% of employees and 57% of CHROs say critical thinking and problem framing are among the skills that matter most in the AI era.  Where judgment is built into how work is done, 62% of CHROs report growing employee confidence in AI-enabled decisions; where it is not, 57% report confidence declining.

AI accountability gaps are impacting employees

43% of employees report that when something goes wrong with AI, the blame falls on them, while 41% of CHROs believe employees may not feel safe challenging or overriding AI outputs.36% of CHROs say unclear accountability complicates AI deployment.Only 28% of CHROs report a joint roadmap with IT backed by a shared operating cadence, and 73% say they struggle to coordinate consistently across the C-suite. Where the CHRO at least shares responsibility for which decisions remain human-led, 76% of employees feel safe to question or override AI recommendations, compared with 43% where HR is merely advisory.

AI gains are creating new pressure on the workforce

80% of CHROs believe AI adoption creates “invisible” work for employees, including validating recommendations, fixing mistakes, providing context and managing exceptions. 42% of employees say AI increases their work or their work goes unrecognized. 42% of CHROs say AI productivity gains are primarily reinvested for innovation or reskilling.

HR is expected to lead AI transformation, but its own adoption lags

72% of organizations make limited or no use of AI inside the HR function. CHROs rate HR’s capabilities particularly low in AI literacy across the team (13%), AI performance measurement (16%) and change management for AI adoption (20%). Organizations with mature HR AI capability, including governance, architecture and measurement, are nearly twice as likely to report a higher number of positive business KPIs.

The study also features perspectives from CHROs and people leaders on how organizations are responding to AI-driven changes in the workforce. A selection of these firsthand views is available in the addendum below.

*Study Methodology:
The IBM Institute for Business Value, in collaboration with Oxford Economics, conducted two complementary surveys from April to June 2026. The first survey gathered insights from 1,500 CHROs and equivalent senior executives responsible for workforce strategy on how they design work, culture and the workforce for an AI-enabled enterprise across 21 geographies and 23 industries. Executive respondents represented organizations of varying sizes and sectors, from $250 million USD to $123.7 billion USD in annual revenue or budget and from 200 to more than 880,000 employees. The second survey polled 8,800 full-time employees spanning 28 countries to capture their experience with AI at work. Additional analysis was conducted to identify organizations converting AI into growth versus those converting it into savings, segmenting organizations by strategic maturity based on capabilities and culture readiness.

Hedia Secures Regulatory Approval to Expand Digital Diabetes Care to Pediatric Patients

Updated MDR certification unlocks pediatric care, broader insulin regimen support, and expanded device connectivity across Hedia’s standalone app and partner platforms.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Danish digital therapeutics company Hedia announced a major regulatory milestone, having secured official Medical Device Regulation (MDR) certification to expand its digital diabetes support to pediatric care. This clearance grants Hedia the right to remove its previous 18+ age restriction, paving the way for parents, guardians, and caregivers to use the Hedia Diabetes Assistant for children and teens under 18, alongside direct use by adults.

For families navigating type 1 diabetes in children, this approval enables simpler, collaborative care. The update will make pediatric support available both in the standalone Hedia app and integrated within partner digital health platforms, ensuring continuity in clinical workflows.

Furthermore, the certification enables flexible insulin regimens with broader treatment settings, which can be tailored to young patients. It also unlocks expanded data capabilities, offering seamless connectivity across continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), smart pens, smartwatches, and mobile health platforms.

Rasmus Kofoed, CEO of Hedia, commented:

“Securing this regulatory milestone allows us to expand our focus to pediatric clinics and the dedicated teams caring for young patients. Managing diabetes in children requires precision, flexibility, and trust. By lifting the age restriction and gaining approval for broader regimen and device support, we are positioned to build the connections necessary to link clinics directly with families at home. Our goal is to streamline how healthcare professionals, caregivers, and patients access data, making daily management simpler, safer, and more connected.”

By bridging the gap between home care, device data, and clinic oversight, Hedia is poised to streamline daily diabetes care for families while supporting better glycemic control. Development and rollout of these features will begin shortly.

About Hedia

Founded in 2016, Hedia develops digital therapeutics solutions that help adults, children, and families with insulin-dependent diabetes manage insulin therapy. The Hedia Diabetes Assistant supports insulin dose calculations using glucose data from connected continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), blood glucose monitors (BGMs), and smart pens, carbohydrate counting through an integrated food database, and physical activity support. Hedia works with healthcare providers, clinical teams, and digital health partners to improve diabetes management through connected, data-driven care.

As iPhone 18 Arrives, AUKEY Introduces the Aivyo Swift Smart Wall Charger Lineup

Published

SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup has officially launched. The new models support Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25W, while faster wired charging depends on coordination among the phone, charger, cable and charging protocol. As charging evolves from a focus on wattage alone toward system-level coordination, AUKEY is introducing Aivyo Swift, the first product line available under the Aivyo smart charging family. For users, real-world charging performance increasingly depends on compatibility, power management and information transparency, not simply maximum output.

The Aivyo Swift lineup includes four GaN wall chargers rated at 45W, 70W, 100W and 140W. The compact 45W model features a single USB-C port for everyday mobile charging. The 70W and 100W models each provide two USB-C ports and one USB-A port, while the 140W model expands to three USB-C ports and one USB-A port. Together, the four power levels cover charging needs ranging from a single smartphone to combinations of phones, tablets and laptops.

Every Aivyo Swift charger features a Smart TFT Display that presents real-time output, charging status and safety alerts. It can also recognize supported iPhone 18 models and display remaining battery information. By bringing charging information to the screen, Aivyo Swift makes a process that traditionally runs in the background more visible and easier to understand. On multi-port models, users can also monitor simultaneous charging more clearly.

Aivyo Swift combines AUKEY’s AI Power smart charging technology, third-generation GaN, Intelligent Stacked Architecture and the EntireProtect Safety System. Together, these technologies support compact design and efficient power management while providing multiple layers of protection against abnormal voltage, current and temperature conditions. Multi-port models can also allocate available power according to connected devices, helping users manage different charging needs through a single charger.

Founded in 2010, AUKEY has accumulated 16 years of technology and product experience in consumer electronics. The company has received 34 iF Design Awards and 27 Red Dot Design Awards, reflecting its long-term ability to combine technological innovation with practical industrial design. With Aivyo Swift as the first available line under the Aivyo platform, AUKEY is building a more intelligent, transparent and coordinated everyday charging experience.

Television judge and professional dancer swaps the judging panel for the dancefloor as she surprises hundreds of Zumba® instructors at ZIN™ Academy in Manchester

MANCHESTER, England, Sept. 22, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Television judge and professional dancer Motsi Mabuse sent hundreds of dance fitness fans into a frenzy last weekend as she made a surprise appearance at Manchester’s Bowlers Exhibition Centre for an electrifying Zumba® performance alongside the programme’s creator, Beto Perez.

Hundreds of members of the UK’s Zumba® Instructor Network had gathered for a day of training led by international talent, unaware that one more dancer was waiting in the wings.

Cue Motsi Mabuse.

As Motsi stepped onto the stage, the room erupted. Bringing her trademark energy and powerhouse moves, she joined Beto and the Zumba® team for a show-stopping performance that had the unsuspecting crowd dancing, cheering and calling for more.

Having spent decades competing professionally and judging television dance shows, Motsi swapped the judging panel for the dance floor, throwing herself into the party alongside the Zumba® instructor community.

ZIN™ Academy is an educational and fitness event for Zumba® instructors across Europe, featuring high-energy classes led by international presenters, professional training and networking opportunities. The event celebrates Zumba®’s unique blend of dance, fitness, music and community.

Fresh from the stage, Motsi said “Teaching a Zumba® class to 500 professional instructors was such an incredible experience! I’m normally on the other side, watching, judging and giving feedback, so suddenly having 500 Zumba® Instructors in front of me was something completely different.

She added “And let me tell you, they know what they’re doing! So you have to bring the energy, give everything and just go for it. But that’s exactly what I loved about it. The energy in that room was amazing. Everyone dancing, smiling, sweating and just enjoying the moment together. I absolutely loved it!”

Zumba® creator Beto Perez said, “Being here in Manchester and dancing alongside so many incredible Zumba® instructors is the perfect way to celebrate 25 years of Zumba®. When we created Zumba®, we never imagined it would grow into such a global community. It’s truly amazing to see that, 25 years later, the energy and passion are still as strong as ever”.

Motsi’s connection with Zumba® extends beyond ZIN™ Academy. As a passionate dancer, she has embraced the programme’s energetic, inclusive approach to fitness, supporting the brand’s efforts to inspire more people to discover the joy of dancing and movement through social campaigns.

Often described as “exercise in disguise”, Zumba® combines easy-to-follow choreography with Latin and world rhythms, turning a workout into a dance fitness party. Available across the UK, classes bring people of all abilities together to move, have fun and experience the physical and social benefits of group exercise.
