Traveloka SEA Index Q3 2026: Faith and Heritage Stand Out Across Southeast Asia

Published

on

From Mecca to Borobudur and Luang Prabang, places of religious and cultural significance connect the quarter’s travel stories, while Southeast Asian countries follow their own distinct path.

SINGAPORE, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A sacred site can give a journey its purpose, while a historic town can give it a different pace. Traveloka’s Q3 2026 SEA Index brings that idea into focus: accommodation bookings from Indonesia to Mecca rose by more than half year on year, travelers from Malaysia showed interest in Borobudur, and bookings from Vietnam to Luang Prabang increased.

Across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, the quarter’s findings invite a closer look at what makes a destination worth the journey. Faith and heritage provide the central thread, while cooler climates, seasonal landscapes, and distinctive city experiences give each market its own intentional travel story.

Indonesia: Cool escapes close to home, faith farther afield

Indonesia took to the road, with Wonosobo and Sukabumi leading the way in terms of growth for Indonesia’s domestic market, putting Central Java’s cool highlands in focus as a reprieve from the dry season. Internationally, accommodation bookings to Mecca rose by more than half, with Mecca, Jeddah, and Madinah all among Indonesia’s top ten fastest-rising international destinations.

Malaysia: A neighboring country, centuries of discovery

For Malaysia, a trip to neighboring Indonesia can open a window onto the region’s intertwined religious histories. Interest in Borobudur from Malaysia brings that heritage connection into focus. The Buddhist monument and nearby Prambanan Temple complex offer the foundations of a temple itinerary through Java, with growing bookings to Magelang and Yogyakarta reinforcing the connection. The draw is tangible: centuries of architecture, belief, and storytelling within one regional journey.

Singapore: A change of season, as well as scenery

Melbourne adds a seasonal twist to Singapore’s travel story. Its winter runs from June to August, followed by spring from September, offering a different calendar of experiences for travelers used to year-round tropical warmth. Bookings to the city more than tripled year on year. Alongside Jeju and the East Asian cities filling Singapore’s fastest-riser list, Melbourne puts the appeal of a cool-weather city break in the spotlight.

Thailand: The rainy season has its own attractions

Rain is part of Khao Yai’s appeal. During its June-to-September wet season, forests and grasslands turn lush and waterfalls swell, giving a familiar escape near Bangkok a distinct seasonal character. Its position as Thailand’s fastest-rising domestic destination puts that green-season landscape in focus. Overseas, Chongqing led the international list, offering the very different spectacle of a mountain city and its neon skyline.

Vietnam: An overseas escape at a different pace

In Luang Prabang, heritage is part of everyday life: morning almsgiving remains a daily Buddhist tradition, alongside the former royal capital’s temples and historic streets. For travelers from Vietnam, neighboring Laos offers an overseas escape built around that quieter rhythm. Bookings to Luang Prabang more than doubled year on year from a smaller base. Meanwhile, New York searches rose 152%, showing that a heritage escape close to home and a big-city dream can share the same market’s travel imagination.

These journeys give the quarter a human scale: a temple around which to build an itinerary, a city with a different seasonal rhythm, or a landscape transformed by rain. Beach discovery remains part of that picture too. Phú Quốc led the newcomers to the regional board, outpacing its origin-market booking-growth benchmark in all five markets and cementing its status as a premier Southeast Asia beach destination.

About the Traveloka SEA Index

The Traveloka SEA Index is a quarterly report on travel trends across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, based on Traveloka’s first-party booking and search data. Drawing on flight, accommodation, and activity insights, it highlights destinations gaining momentum, differences between markets, and the places capturing travelers’ interest. The Index helps the travel industry, media, and travelers understand how the region’s travel patterns are evolving. Findings reflect activity on Traveloka; destination rankings focus on booking growth rather than total visitor numbers, while searches are reported separately as a measure of interest.

Q3 2026 data note

This edition covers activity recorded from July 1 – September 30, 2026. Bookings measure transactions, not unique travelers or completed trips; destination activity does not establish individual travel motivations.

Key Insights from the Event

H.E. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of Thailand, said “I am especially pleased to welcome CNN Global Perspectives, building on the success of CNN Countdown last year…CNN Global Perspectives gives us the chance to hear different views and discuss how economic decisions affect people’s daily life. I hope today’s program will bring different perspectives together and keep the discussions grounded in practical choices.”

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, said, “What we have at the moment is this recurring, infamous war of Russia against Ukraine, that is continuing and it’s putting pressure on refinery capacities, as you know. But since March ’26, we also have the war in the Middle East, which is also putting a huge strain on the supply and movement of oil and gas.”

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-general of the World Trade Organization, told CNN’s Richard Quest, “Trade is facing the biggest disruptions it’s ever faced in the 80 years history of … the World Trade Organization… But at the same time, Richard, what has really surprised us is the resilience of trade.”

Grab CEO Anthony Tan, said “AI itself is not going to take your job … but who will take your job is somebody who knows and uses AI, they’re going to take your job… If you aren’t going to re-invest and self-invest and learn and embrace AI, I’m sorry, the person on your right, on your left who is embracing AI will take your job.”

Maggie Kang, Academy Award-winning Creator and Co-director of “KPop Demon Hunters”, said “We had already, you know, as a culture, kind of cemented our place in movies and TV with ‘Squid Game’ and in music with Kpop, and I saw all of that, and you know growing up where my culture wasn’t so cool, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re cool now’. Maybe it’s time that we could do something cool in the animation space because Koreans have produced a lot of animation for a lot of other people, but we never really had like something that we could call our own.”

Integrated Research launches Clarion to close the gap between what employees experience and what IT can see

Clarion, IR’s first standalone SaaS product, brings employees and IT teams together in real time to answer the deceptively simple question behind a bad call: “Is it me, or the platform?”

SYDNEY, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Leading global observability software company Integrated Research (IR) (ASX: IRI) today launched Clarion, a lightweight observability solution that gives employees and IT teams proactive, real-time visibility into what is affecting their call and meeting readiness. Clarion is a standalone SaaS product built on IR’s new AI-powered platform, Iris.

Built for organizations with remote, hybrid and contact center workforces, Clarion addresses a persistent visibility gap between what an employee experiences and what IT can see. When a call drops, breaks up or simply does not work as expected, it answers the first question anyone asks: “Is it me, or the platform?”

“Workplace communications rely on a technology recipe that includes multiple devices, home and corporate networks, and communications platforms. When any one of these ingredients is deficient the entire communication experience suffers, often critically. Fixing problems such as these can be complicated and time-consuming, overwhelming the IT team,” said Ian Lowe, CEO and Managing Director of IR.

Clarion solves this by giving both employees and IT teams real-time visibility of the deficiencies impacting communications. It also provides employees a pre-call health check.

A lightweight widget on the employee desktop tells them, in plain language, what is affecting their calls and meetings. Fleet dashboards aggregate telemetry across the whole workforce, so IT teams can establish whether a problem is isolated or part of something wider. Where many monitoring tools track the network, device or platform in isolation, and only surface a problem after it has been reported, Clarion brings all these signals together in one real time view, often before a call is even affected.

For an employee, that might mean seeing that weak Wi-Fi or headset connectivity is affecting a call and acting on it without contacting IT. When support is needed, Clarion captures the technical context around the issue, giving IT a far better starting point than a ticket reporting that ‘something isn’t working.’

For IT teams, that same visibility surfaces warnings and critical issues across endpoints, exposes patterns, and allows them to drill down from a single device or connection to a problem affecting a wider group of employees.

Clarion is designed to give employees that visibility while respecting their privacy. It observes the technology supporting their work rather than the employees themselves. It does not record screens, log keystrokes, track activity or idle time, or access what is said on calls.

“Everything we have built has been about giving organizations visibility into the technology behind their most critical operations,” said Lowe. “Clarion takes that in a new direction. As a standalone, cloud-native SaaS product, it gives us a simpler way to reach more organizations and more users.”

Clarion extends IR’s enterprise observability portfolio, including Prognosis, Prognosis Elevate (observability-as-a-service), and AI Chat powered by Iris.

Clarion is available from 15 October 2026 with a 30-day free trial. For more information or to request a demonstration, visit the website.
