Star of the Hit Series ‘Bling Empire” Promotes Byrna Non-Lethal Self-Defense Products for Self-Reliant Independent Women

ANDOVER, Mass., June 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Byrna Technologies Inc. (“Byrna” or “the Company”) (Nasdaq: BYRN) today announced that the Company will be collaborating with Christine Chiu, the executive producer and star of the Netflix reality TV series Bling Empire.  Through her social media platforms, Christine will build awareness among her many followers of the non-lethal, self-defense options available to them, including Byrna’s line of personal self-defense products.

To launch the collaboration, the company worked with Ms. Chiu to create a testimonial video that will be shared across Christine Chiu’s social media platforms. The video will be followed by ongoing reminders to Christine’s fan base on the importance of being vigilant when it comes to protecting one’s family, home and business.

“As a successful businesswoman with high visibility, I am concerned about the dramatic increase in violent crime.  I am often approached by strangers, which, in these uncertain times, can be very unsettling,” commented Chiu.  “With the Byrna in my purse, I feel safe.  I love my Byrna more than I had anticipated.  The Byrna SD personal security device provides safe, reliable and effective protection for me and my family.  By temporarily incapacitating an attacker, the Byrna gives you time to get out of harm’s way and call for help – all without the risk of taking someone’s life or causing permanent injury.”

“We are extremely excited to partner with Christine” commented Byrna Chief Marketing & Revenue Officer Luan Pham. “She has completely embraced Byrna’s “Live Safe” mantra.  We believe that to “live safe” one must be prepared to defend oneself and one’s family and that means having a personal self-defense game plan. As has been proven time and time again, those who are properly prepared stand a much better chance of thwarting an attacker and of protecting themselves, their homes and their loved ones.  As we say at Byrna – You are your own first responder.”

Known as the “Un-Gun,” the Byrna pneumatic launcher shoots chemical irritant projectiles (tear gas + pepper) and kinetic rounds, both of which can incapacitate an assailant for up to 30 minutes from as much as 60 feet away. The Un-Gun is not classified by the federal government as a firearm and thus does not require a background check or special permit to own. The Un-Gun is also travel-friendly to all 50 states and is TSA-approved in checked luggage.

“My favorite feature of the Byrna ‘Un-Gun’ is that indirect shots can be just as effective as direct shots,” remarked Chiu. “It’s so easy to use that anyone can protect themselves, even if they are not a good shot.”

The list of Byrna Nation’s supporters continues to grow at an astounding pace.  There are actors, entertainers, sports figures, private security professionals, law enforcement personnel and most importantly, hundreds of thousands of ordinary, everyday people who have taken the decision to protect themselves and their families with the non-lethal technology provided by Byrna Technologies.  The newest Byrna “hero” is woman, mother and business entrepreneur Christine Chiu.

Caliber Public Safety Partners with Abel Police to Reduce Officer Report Writing Time with New BodyCam Narrative Feature

Published

New AI integration targets the number one administrative burden for patrol officers and delivers CJIS-compliant field tools while maintaining strict accountability through a human-in-the-loop model.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Caliber Public Safety, a provider of integrated public safety technology to more than 700 law enforcement, fire/EMS, and corrections agencies nationwide, announced new BodyCam Narrative capabilities and a comprehensive suite of in-field AI tools within their Online RMS.

Caliber’s goal is to help agencies leverage AI responsibly to increase efficiency while maintaining transparency, accountability, and public trust. Designed to directly reduce the hours patrol officers spend on paperwork, this new feature delivers measurable business outcomes by targeting the most time-consuming part of the workday. By accelerating the reporting process, agencies can keep their personnel in the field and highly visible in the communities they serve.

The Problem BodyCam Narrative Solves
Report writing is consistently cited as the top administrative burden among law enforcement professionals. After a complex incident, officers often face “blank screen syndrome,” struggling to recall exact timelines and details after a long shift.

To solve this, Caliber Public Safety has integrated the specialized AI report-writing solution from Abel Police directly into the Caliber Online RMS. The BodyCam Narrative feature allows officers to access their body camera videos within the RMS narrative tools. The Abel Police technology then generates a preliminary draft based on the video and audio content, complete with embedded time-link references to specific video segments. Rather than starting from scratch, officers receive a working framework that they can easily verify against the footage.

Daniel Francis, Abel CEO, added: “We built our AI report-writing solution to help officers focus on policing rather than paperwork. Integrating our technology directly into the Caliber Online RMS puts this time-saving tool exactly where officers need it. We are proud to partner with Caliber to bring this capability to more agencies and help get officers back on patrol faster.”

Expanding the In-Field Toolkit
Beyond narrative generation, this partnership deploys the full Abel Police application to support officers during active calls. This comprehensive deployment includes three critical tools designed for the realities of patrol:

Abel Chat: Officers often need immediate clarification on state law, case law, or agency policy manuals while on a scene. Abel Chat provides a CJIS-compliant AI interface that delivers real answers with source citations. It is built to safely handle Criminal Justice Information (CJI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) directly on an officer’s computer or mobile phone.Abel Translate: Language barriers can delay investigations and complicate community interactions. Abel Translate offers CJIS-compliant voice translations across 80 languages. Crucially, it includes a built-in consent requirement that asks the subject for permission to use automated translation in their own language, protecting civil rights and agency liability.Abel Map: To improve situational awareness and officer safety, Abel Map provides a live-location interface that allows for easy location sharing agency-wide or within specific teams.

Configurable Workflows and Consistent Reporting
The system is highly adaptable to meet specific agency needs. It can process all types of video evidence, from street footage to formal interviews, and administrators can configure the system to restrict processing to specific video types if desired. Once a narrative is saved, the associated videos do not immediately disappear. They remain accessible within the system for a configured period, defaulting to 10 days, allowing officers to return and review footage if further supplements are needed.

Additionally, the BodyCam Narrative feature can be combined with charge-specific templates for recurring incident types, such as driving under the influence or domestic violence. This combination creates a highly consistent report structure across the entire agency. This similarity in reporting makes it significantly easier for supervisors to review submissions and for district and prosecuting attorneys to process cases efficiently.

The Human-in-the-Loop Differentiator
Caliber differentiates its approach to artificial intelligence through a strict human-in-the-loop model. The technology is designed to assist the officer, not replace officer judgment. Final accountability always remains with the authoring officer.

Josh Bryant, Director, Project Management with Caliber Public Safety, explained the operational impact: “Our focus is always on the practitioner. By partnering with Abel Police, we are giving officers a tool that significantly cuts down the time it takes to write a compliant, accurate report. Just as importantly, our strict human-in-the-loop validation ensures that the officer’s judgment remains the final authority on every single narrative.”

To guarantee this accountability, the Abel Police integration includes a unique validation step that sets it apart from other solutions. The system intentionally inserts obvious fictional statements, known internally as “Easter eggs,” into the initial AI-generated draft. This requires the officer to actively read, review, and edit the content before the system allows them to save the final report. Furthermore, the system tracks which users have acknowledged the AI-generated content, providing a clear audit trail for agency leadership and prosecuting attorneys.

Availability
The Abel Police suite, including BodyCam Narrative, Chat, Translate, and Map, is available as an agency-level activation, allowing administrators to assign access only to specific user roles. For agencies new to this technology, Abel Police offers structured pilot programs for five to six users. This allows departments to test the workflow and measure time savings before full deployment. Active pilots are currently underway in select agencies across the country, with users already experiencing the benefits of the integrated workflow.

Agencies interested in learning more about the BodyCam Narrative feature or the full Caliber Online RMS platform are encouraged to contact the Caliber Public Safety sales team via phone, email, or by visiting our website: (336) 397-5300 / info@caliberpublicsafety.com / www.caliberpublicsafety.com.

LiveU Joins IBC Accelerator’s Smart Stories Consortium to Define an Open Standard for Story Context Interoperability

LiveU connects live field acquisition to the Story Object Model, the open standard newsrooms are building so AI-enabled production tools work from one shared understanding of a story

HACKENSACK, N.J. , Sept. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — LiveU is participating in the IBC Accelerator Incubator 2026: Smart Stories – The New Knowledge Architecture for Content Production, an industry-wide initiative developing the Story Object Model (SOM), an open standard for structuring and sharing editorial story context across newsroom production systems. SOM creates one story that every tool works from – cutting time to air, giving every team a single view, and preventing errors caused by rewriting metadata between vendors.

This new consortium spans more than a dozen broadcasters, news organizations, standards bodies, and technology vendors, covering the full content chain from news gathering through to distribution. Champions include ITN, BBC, AP (Associated Press), Al Jazeera, Channel 4, Washington Post, BBC, ITV, Sky, EBU, NBCUniversal, Reuters, Scripps, and SMPTE. LiveU joins the project alongside technology participants including Google Cloud, Shure, Trint, Cognizant, EVS, CUEZ, Trint, AWS, Nuvelics, Electric Sheep, the Weather Company, Moments Lab, HyperContent AI, Octopus, Fonn Group and Vizrt.

A gap AI can’t close on its own

As content volume grows exponentially, broadcasters need better ways to discover and distribute it, and the ability to build one story into versions that span broadcast, social, and streaming. Today, producers hold that structure themselves, manually re-entering and aligning details. That slows production and raises the risk of error as stories advance toward air.

Smart Stories closes that gap with a new knowledge architecture for content production. MOS (Media Object Server), the broadcast industry’s long-standing operational standard, connects systems by moving data between them but is editorially blind. In contrast, SOM is designed to connect them editorially: it gives every tool in the chain a shared, structured description of what a story is, what has changed, and what matters. AI agents and production tools can act on that understanding without a producer relaying it by hand.

The Accelerator project also defines Skills, so editorial standards, compliance thresholds and house style stay encoded and owned by the newsroom.

LiveU’s role: a story-centric ingest workflow built around SOM

SOM extends LiveU’s story-centric automated ingest and acquisition workflow by adding another layer of interoperability to LiveU’s open EcoSystem. SOM enables editorial teams to share context in real time between vendors, leading to context-aware agentic workflows. LiveU Ingest today already shares live feeds and metadata with newsroom, editing, and distribution platforms outside LiveU.

“Live production has always depended on context traveling from the field into the newsroom and across every tool that touches a story,” said Roy Hasson, VP Product Marketing and SaaS Sales, LiveU. “For years, producers held that context in their heads, as AI agents take on more of the production workflow, they need that same context to work from. Smart Stories is the industry building the standard that makes story-centric workflows possible, so systems understand each other and agentic AI can support the editorial process. Our field-to-cloud technology powers that work today.”

One use case focuses on connecting acquisition units directly to the story. When a story breaks, LiveU suggests which unit to dispatch. That unit’s feed carries the story’s context into the cloud. Transcription and clip generation build on that context automatically. One person then confirms the story in a shared console.

Hasson continued, “We are committed to open industry standards, because they increase collaboration and interoperability between vendors across the production chain. That commitment shows up in LiveU’s active participation in initiatives like SOM, MXL, and TAMS – open projects that keep our IP-video EcoSystem connected to outside tools and platforms.”

Deliverables and live demo at IBC2026

The consortium will deliver three outputs before IBC2026 in Amsterdam, the Story Object Model specification, a Skills reference architecture and a live multi-vendor demonstration. The demonstration takes two forms: a filmed, end-to-end breaking-news pipeline, and a live event where a story changes mid-production, and every connected system responds in real time, with a human editor giving final sign-off. The consortium will also publish a three-tier integration guide, giving vendors a defined path to adopt SOM.

LiveU will join the consortium’s live showcase on Saturday, September 12th:

Smart Stories Incubator showcase: 4:00–5:00pm, Future Tech Stage, Hall 14Accelerator networking reception: 5:00–6:00pm, immediately following the showcase

Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice

LiveU is also participating in this second IBC2026 Accelerator Project, using open 5G network APIs to turn 5G from best-effort connectivity into a programmable, predictable and reliable production resource.

Network Control: Your Connection, Your Choice unites the BBC, EBU, DAZN, France Télévisions, GSMA, RAI Italy, RTL Germany, TV2 Denmark, Vodafone and Telefónica as Champions, alongside LiveU, Neutral Wireless, Haivision, SliceFinity and Vonage as Participants, with the University of Strathclyde serving as Academic Partner. Together, the group explores how open network APIs can help applications with specialized requirements interact with standardized network capabilities designed to meet defined quality requirements, supporting reliable and business-critical media production workflows over 5G.

LiveU’s full IP-video EcoSystem will be on display at Stand 7.C24. To arrange a meeting or demonstration, visit https://get.liveu.tv/ibc-2026/

The IBC Accelerator Zone is located in Hall 14, D.25. The Accelerator PoC Showcases for the above projects will be on Saturday September 12th 16-17.00hrs (Smart Stories) and Sunday September 13th 11.30am-12.30pm (Network Control) on the Future Tech Stage, also in Hall 14.
