Bybit x Block Scholes Report: BTC Options Steady with Call-Put Parity, ETH Braces for Short-Term Volatility

Published

on

DUBAI, UAE, Jan. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Bybit, the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has released its latest crypto derivatives analytics report in collaboration with Block Scholes. The report sheds light on key trends in open interest and market behavior during the significant year-end options expiration for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

Key highlights:

Open Interest Solid Amid Year-End Options Expiration

Although open interest in BTC and ETH perpetual swaps has not returned to the early December 2024 highs, it remained stable during the critical year-end options expiration. This stability suggests that traders did not heavily rely on perpetual contracts to hedge the delta of expiring options, which contributed to the muted volatility observed during this period. Trading volumes dipped during the winter holiday season, aligning with a collapse in realized volatility, which reached its lowest levels of December.

BTC Option Curve Remains Steep During Call-Put Parity

Contrary to expectations, the expiration of December’s options did not spark a surge in volatility. Instead, realized volatility declined to the lower end of its recent range. The implied volatility term structure for BTC options remains steep, with longer-dated implied volatility hovering around 57% and 1-week at-the-money options trading approximately five points lower. Most of the expired open interest has not been reinvested, maintaining a neutral call-put balance. As a result, BTC’s options market shows limited leverage compared to its position at the beginning of December 2024, reflecting a cautious sentiment.

Huge ETH Option Expiring Doesn’t Cause Volatility

Despite the substantial expiration of ETH options in late December 2024, market dynamics remained stable. A spike in realized volatility during December failed to extend into the new year, with ETH’s spot price currently showing lower volatility compared to short-tenor implied volatility. Over the past week, the implied volatility term structure for ETH options has shifted, steepening briefly before flattening again, diverging from BTC’s consistently steep profile. This pattern suggests that ETH’s options market is bracing for potential short-term volatility in spot price movements.

Interestingly, despite the expiration, call options for ETH have gained momentum at the start of 2025, dominating the market and indicating an optimistic outlook among traders.

Chelsea FC name fast-growing fintech platform as Principal Partner

LONDON, Oct. 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Chelsea Football Club has today announced a multi-year partnership with Sokin, the embedded finance and payments company used by businesses worldwide. Sokin will be named a Principal Partner and Official Business Payments and FX Partner of Chelsea FC and Chelsea FC Women.

As a Principal Partner, Sokin will be represented on the sleeves of the Chelsea FC men’s, women’s and academy home, away, and third kits from the 2026/27 season.

The partnership brings together two ambitious London-headquartered organisations with worldwide reach – a club with millions of fans across the world and a fintech platform through which businesses move more than $11 billion a year. A club of Chelsea’s scale works in many currencies every day, with partners, competitions and supporters around the world, and needs a financial partner built to handle that.

Sokin gives finance teams business payments, multi-currency accounts, foreign exchange, checkout and treasury in one place, so they spend less time juggling banks and providers and keep more of what they move.

As Official Business Payments and FX Partner, Sokin will simplify how Chelsea FC sends, receives and manages money in the currencies the club operates in.

The Sokin logo will feature on the sleeve of the Chelsea shirt for the first time [when the men’s team host Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 24th October.]

Jason Gannon, President at Chelsea FC said:

“At Chelsea, we seek to partner with organisations that share our ambition and innovative mindset. Sokin’s expertise in business payments, and their focus on making both simpler for the businesses they serve, makes them a natural fit for the Club. We are pleased to welcome Sokin to the Chelsea family and look forward to working together in the years ahead.”

Vroon Modgill, CEO and founder at Sokin said:

“Chelsea plays on the biggest stage in world football, and its business runs in dozens of currencies. Sokin was built for that with regulated, multi-currency payments and foreign exchange for organisations that operate internationally. We’re proud to be the platform behind the business payments and FX of one of the most iconic teams in football. Sokin’s platform serves businesses in more than 170 countries. We’re thrilled to be partners for the season ahead. An organisation as sophisticated as Chelsea doesn’t leave its finances to chance.”

About Sokin

Some businesses use Sokin to manage global finance in-house. Others build it into their products to power financial experiences for their customers.
