OpenLight Achieves Successful Completion of Telcordia GR-468 Qualification for Silicon Photonics Components

Published

on

Milestone in optoelectronics provides significant assurance in the design and manufacturing process of advanced optoelectronic components, which are critical for applications in the growing Silicon Photonics industry.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — OpenLight, the world leader in custom PASIC chip design and manufacturing, today announced the successful completion of Telcordia GR-468 qualification for all active components in its Photonic Design Kit (PDK) based on Tower Semiconductor’s PH18DA process. This achievement validates that OpenLight’s solution meets the necessary industry reliability standards, a key requirement for the widespread deployment of photonics technologies and provides significant assurance in the design and manufacturing process of advanced optoelectronic components for applications in the growing Silicon Photonics industry.

The GR-468 qualification process requires components to undergo 2,000 hours of long-term reliability testing, including High-Temperature Operating Life (HTOL), Damp Heat Storage (THS), Temperature Cycling (TC), Temperature and Humidity Bias (THB) and Electrostatic Discharge-Human Body Model (ESD-HBM) testing. During the testing, two lots exceeded 5,000 hours with zero failures, while another exceeded 15,000 hours without any failures, demonstrating their exceptional reliability. This milestone includes the qualification of Lasers, Electro-absorption Modulators (EAMs) and Photodiodes (PDs), which are based on Indium Phosphide (InP) and integrated into silicon wafers.

For the deployment of any photonic technology, customers require component building blocks to meet the industry’s standard reliability requirements. Achieving the GR-468 qualification provides significant assurance in the design and manufacturing process of advanced optoelectronic components, which are critical for applications in the growing Silicon Photonics industry. With this qualification, OpenLight is now ready for the highly scalable productization of these components and their deployment in next-generation photonics applications.

Beyond passing the GR-468 qualification, OpenLight’s technology offers two major advantages that set it apart in the Silicon Photonics market:

Laser Integration Without Facets: The lasers in OpenLight’s solution are heterogeneously integrated into silicon without the need for a laser facet, eliminating the risk of Catastrophic Optical Mirror Damage (COMD), a common failure mode in traditional lasers.Superior Epitaxial Growth: OpenLight’s InP-based solution uses a single epitaxial (EPI) growth process with no re-growth, grating or blocking junctions. This ensures high material integrity and exceptional reliability, with over 99% of InP EPI transferred to the silicon wafer without defects.

“The breakthrough in long-term reliability of OpenLight’s optoelectronic components is a significant step in the evolution of Silicon Photonics. While the industry is already comfortable with externally coupled lasers in silicon photonics, the next frontier lies in heterogeneously integrated Silicon Photonics,” said Dr. Adam Carter, CEO of OpenLight. “The successful GR-468 qualification and long-term reliability data will give our customers the confidence needed to transition to this next level of integration, opening the door for the widespread adoption of our high-performance components in Silicon Photonics, and we’re excited to see the industry embrace this next generation of technology.”

140th Canton Fair: Circular Economy in Products and Practice

Published

on

By

GUANGZHOU, China, Oct. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — As sustainability moves from a corporate commitment to a business imperative, the principles of the circular economy are becoming increasingly visible across both products and industry practices. This shift can also be observed at the 140th Canton Fair.

Designing Longer Lifecycles for Home Products

Among the home and lifestyle products featured at the fair, circular design remains a key theme. Sleep solutions are integrating bio-based and low-carbon materials with durable structures that improve product longevity while reducing resource consumption. Beyond comfort and support, manufacturers focus on repairability, recyclable components and internationally recognized environmental certifications. These features extend product life cycles and minimize waste.

Beyond sleep solutions, furniture exhibitors are also exploring new approaches to material reuse. Seating products made with recycled plastics recovered from discarded appliances and marine waste demonstrate how post-consumer materials can be transformed into high-value consumer goods. Combined with ergonomic design, modular construction and enhanced durability, these products help reduce dependence on virgin resources while maintaining performance and safety standards.

Another approach comes from furniture crafted from reclaimed wood, highlighting another pathway toward circularity. By giving previously used timber a second life, manufacturers preserve material value, reduce waste and create products that carry a distinctive sense of history and craftsmanship.

A Trade Fair Shaped by Circular Principles

The Canton Fair’s commitment to sustainability extends far beyond its exhibition halls. Over the past decade, it has served as a testing ground for greener exhibition practices, helping transform an industry once associated with large volumes of disposable construction materials and post-event waste.

Now the fair has achieved green booth adoption, replacing traditional one-time-use structures with modular, reusable systems. This shift significantly reduces construction waste while improving efficiency and safety. The experience gained through years of implementation later contributed to the development of national standards for green exhibition booths, exhibition operations and venue safety management, providing a framework that has since influenced other major exhibitions and venues across China.

Marking its 70th anniversary, the Canton Fair continues to champion a long-term approach to sustainable growth. Whether through circular product innovation or greener exhibition practices, these commitments remain central to the fair’s vision for the years ahead.
