Digital Check’s SmartSource® Expert Elite Scanner Adds USB-to-Network Convertible Operation with a Button Press

Published

on

The SmartSource Expert Elite check scanner from Digital Check was previously designed to operate only as a network device, but is now a convertible USB or network scanner that can change modes with a button-press sequence using a new feature named SimpleSwitch.

NORTHBROOK, Ill., April 3, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Beginning with shipments from Digital Check in March 2025, SmartSource Expert Elite check scanners allow users to switch between USB-connected and network-enabled operation with a short button-press sequence. The feature, named SimpleSwitch, is new to this product.

This new functionality for the Expert Elite not only gives peace of mind that the equipment you buy today will work in tomorrow’s networked branch, but also that the switch will be as simple as possible

Along with the recently released TS250, this new version of Expert Elite represents Digital Check’s first scanner models that let the end user “shift on the fly” between network and USB operation, and between different APIs. Because the Expert Elite has the necessary firmware for either network or USB operation loaded in the scanner by default, changing the configuration is simpler than ever. Previous models required a firmware update to make the switch between traditional USB and network mode operation.

“As networked virtual branch environments have become increasingly common, Digital Check has found it more important than ever to provide products that allow our customers to be ready for tomorrow, whatever their plans may be,” says Mike Donovan, VP of Global Sales. “This new functionality for the Expert Elite not only gives peace of mind that the equipment you buy today will work in tomorrow’s networked branch, but also that the switch will be as simple as possible.”

Expert Elite units with SimpleSwitch retain backward compatibility with the existing product line, and users of the new units will experience a more convenient out-of-box configuration by simply selecting the mode at installation by either plugging in the appropriate cable or via a simple button sequence.

In addition to the standard USB and Ethernet-connected operation, the Expert Elite features the option for Ethernet-over-USB connectivity, which emulates Ethernet networking over a private USB connection with a workstation. Network-ready scanners like the Expert Elite have become steadily more important outside the bank branch, as a growing percentage of businesses move to non-Windows operating systems. IP-based scanners are operated by browser commands and can be controlled by devices using macOS and Linux.

“As banking evolves on the side of both the institution and the end-user, flexibility is the direction of the future,” Donovan says. “Digital Check continues to innovate and deliver that flexibility in a package that is user-friendly.”

New tender offer capabilities connect equity management with real-time valuation data covering approximately 65,000 private companies with a combined estimated value of $9 trillion, laying the groundwork for future secondary marketplace capabilities.

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Eqvista, a leading equity management and valuation platform serving more than 25,000 companies, today announced the launch of company-sponsored tender offer capabilities, enabling private companies to organize structured liquidity events directly within their equity management platform. The launch also marks a step toward Eqvista’s planned secondary marketplace capabilities.

As companies stay private longer, employees and early investors face limited opportunities to sell their shares. Meanwhile, organizing liquidity events involves complex decisions around pricing, participant eligibility, approvals, and ownership changes.

Eqvista brings these processes together through a company-controlled tender offer workflow, supported by its equity management infrastructure and Eqvista Real-Time Company Valuation® technology.

“With Eqvista, private companies can help their employees and early investors turn their shares into cash, rewarding them for their contributions to the company,” said Tomas Milar, Founder and CEO of Eqvista. “We already help companies manage ownership and understand their value. Bringing tender offers into the same platform is a natural next step toward connecting equity management, valuation, and liquidity.”

Company-Controlled Tender Offers

Eqvista’s new capabilities allow companies to manage tender offers while maintaining control over participation, transaction terms, and ownership changes.

Key features include:

Cap table integration: Automatically record completed ownership changes.Participant controls: Define eligible buyers and sellers and offer windows.Allocation rules: Set transaction limits, pro rata allocations, and priorities.Integrated approvals: Manage approval requirements and rights of first refusal.Valuation-informed pricing: Reference Eqvista Real-Time Company Valuation® data when evaluating transaction pricing.

By integrating these processes, Eqvista aims to reduce the administrative complexity of organizing liquidity events while helping companies maintain control over their shareholder base.

Building Toward a Secondary Marketplace

Building on its company-sponsored tender offer capabilities, Eqvista plans to expand into secondary marketplace infrastructure designed to support structured, company-approved liquidity programs. By connecting ownership records, real-time valuation data, and private share transactions within one platform, Eqvista aims to make private market liquidity more accessible while allowing companies to maintain control over participation and ownership changes. Further details will be announced as development progresses, subject to applicable regulatory requirements.
