New research finds 100,000 of Japan’s AI developers now leverage cloud native technologies

Key Highlights:

CNCF and SlashData released the State of Cloud Native Development in Japan report, highlighting Japan’s unique path to cloud native adoption, platform engineering maturity and the growing role of AI infrastructure. The State of Cloud Native Development in Japan report estimates Japan is home to approximately 950,000 cloud native developers as of Q1 2026.Despite on-prem infrastructure remaining dominant, Japan’s cloud native adoption now slightly exceeds the global average.

YOKOHAMA, Japan, July 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Japan — The Cloud Native Computing Foundation® (CNCF®), which builds sustainable ecosystems for cloud native software, today released new findings from its latest State of Cloud Native Development in Japan report in collaboration with SlashData. The research highlights the continued growth of Japan’s cloud native ecosystem driven by the demand for AI, the country’s distinct infrastructure strategy and the increasing maturity of platform engineering across software development.

“In Japan, the focus is shifting from the novelty of AI models to the operational reality of production,” said Jonathan Bryce, executive director, CNCF. “The data confirms that AI is a driving factor for cloud native adoption with high-scale inference demands for observability and scalability that only a cloud native infrastructure stack can provide. As organizations increasingly recognize Kubernetes as the standard operating system for AI, we are focused on solving these operational and physical infrastructure challenges together.”

Japan’s cloud native community continues to grow

The report found that approximately 950,000 developers in Japan are now cloud native, representing 41% of the country’s developer population, slightly above the global average of 39%.

Cloud native adoption has increased significantly over the past two years, reflecting growing awareness and use of cloud native technologies across Japan’s software industry.

“Japan’s cloud native community is entering an exciting new phase of growth as AI drives demand for modern, open infrastructure,” said Noriaki Fukuyasu, vice president of Japan operations, The Linux Foundation. “Organizations are looking beyond AI applications to the platforms that power them, creating greater interest in cloud native technologies like Kubernetes and the skills needed to deploy AI at scale. This momentum is helping strengthen Japan’s open source community while preparing the country for the next generation of innovation.”

Japan follows a unique path to cloud native adoption

Unlike most global markets, Japan continues to rely heavily on on-premises (on-prem) infrastructure while maintaining cloud native maturity comparable to the rest of the world.

Nearly half (47%) of developers report deploying to on-premises servers, while hybrid cloud adoption stands at 16%.

The findings suggest Japanese organizations are increasingly incorporating cloud native technologies within existing enterprise infrastructure rather than relying exclusively on public cloud environments.

Platform engineering continues to mature while AI drives the next phase

The report highlights continued advances in platform engineering across Japan’s software industry.

88% of backend developers now work within standardized DevOps or platform engineering environments, up from 80% six months earlier, while 71% use at least one cloud native technology or practice. The research also estimates that approximately 100,000 AI developers in Japan are cloud native, reinforcing the growing role of cloud native technologies in supporting production AI workloads.

“Japan demonstrates that there is no single path to cloud native maturity,” said Liam Bollmann-Dodd, principal market research consultant, SlashData. “Organizations are successfully modernizing while balancing existing infrastructure investments, and platform engineering is making cloud native technologies accessible to more developers regardless of the underlying deployment model.”

Market Segmentation Analysis

By panel size

Large-format display walls generate most current panel revenue because one commercial installation can command a high price. Microdisplays are smaller in absolute value but benefit from growing interest in near-eye optical engines, where pixel density and brightness matter more than screen area.

By application

Commercial signage and video walls accounted for 60.1% of 2025 application value. Automotive displays are the fastest-growing modeled application, but a design win must still pass qualification and enter vehicle production before it creates meaningful recurring panel sales.

Large panels held 75.7% of the panel size segment in 2025, while Commercial video walls and signage led the application split at 60.1%. Credence Research forecasts faster growth for Microdisplays (38.96% a year) and Automotive displays (48.44% a year). These figures represent market estimates and are not company-reported results.

Market Drivers and Opportunities

Wearables and sunlight readability

Wearables demand a bright image under direct sunlight, but power and device size impose strict limits. Micro LED can address this use case where manufacturers can manage transfer yield on comparatively small panels. The September 2025 launch of Garmin’s fēnix 8 Pro MicroLED showed a commercial watch application rather than a laboratory demonstration.

Near-eye displays and high pixel density

AR glasses require tiny projection engines capable of overcoming optical losses in waveguides. Silicon-backed microdisplays offer a route to higher pixel density, although red-emitter efficiency and full-color integration remain technical hurdles. The outlook therefore depends on production yield and second-source availability rather than consumer enthusiasm alone.

Commercial walls and automotive design programs

Corporate lobbies, studios and control rooms remain established buyers of modular displays. Vehicle head-up displays and shaped cockpit panels could broaden demand if qualification programs reach series production. Display makers must balance high brightness and durability against cost, power consumption and repair complexity.

Regional Analysis

Credence Research estimates the following shares of global 2025 revenue: Asia Pacific 41.2%; North America 28.7%; Europe 19.8%; Middle East and Africa 7.2%; Latin America 3.1%. These allocations sum to 100% and reflect buyer location rather than the location of manufacturing or company headquarters.

Asia Pacific led the market in 2025, supported by its established buyer base, supplier relationships and industry infrastructure. North America and Europe are also material demand centers, although the competitive mix and procurement requirements vary by country. The smaller regions may record high percentage growth from a limited starting base, and such rates should not be mistaken for leadership in absolute spending.

Asia Pacific combines major panel suppliers in Taiwan, China and South Korea with demand for AR devices and commercial walls. North America buys premium installations and high-brightness wearables, while European demand includes broadcast, automotive design and luxury retail. The Gulf remains a smaller but visible market for large installations.

Market Challenges

Mass transfer and defective-pixel repair can keep production costs high, particularly for large panels. OLED and improved LCD technologies remain credible substitutes in mainstream consumer devices. Large-screen classification also requires care: the report follows Credence Research’s commercial display definition rather than treating every fine-pitch LED product as an interchangeable micro LED panel.

Buyers should also evaluate the total cost of adoption, interoperability with existing systems, vendor continuity and country-specific compliance obligations. Those factors can lengthen purchasing decisions even where the long-term growth thesis remains intact. The study distinguishes these commercial constraints from the market forecast itself.

Future Outlook

Asia Pacific is expected to retain the largest regional position because it combines panel manufacturing capacity with demand for AR devices and premium commercial displays. Expansion will depend on improved chip-transfer yield, high-density silicon backplanes and practical full-color microdisplays. The forecast remains a modeled estimate rather than a reported industry shipment total.

Through 2035, suppliers that convert product capabilities into repeatable deployments, transparent pricing and reliable support should be better positioned than firms relying only on early demonstrations. Credence Research expects growth to vary across customer types and geographies rather than advance evenly each year.

Competitive Landscape

The market includes established multinational suppliers and specialized technology or service providers. Competition centers on product performance, customer relationships, integration capabilities, delivery reliability and the ability to meet sector-specific standards. The companies listed below participate in different parts of the value chain; their inclusion does not imply identical offerings or a verified ranking by market share.

Competitive analysis should distinguish vendors that directly sell the products or services in the defined scope from adjacent technology providers and end users. Credence Research uses supplier disclosures and industry evidence to assess participation. Comparable revenue for the narrow market definition is rarely disclosed, so this release does not assign unsupported individual company shares.

Recent Developments

September 2025: Garmin introduced the fēnix 8 Pro MicroLED, a smartwatch display with up to 4,500 nits of brightness. January 2026: Sony Electronics announced its Crystal LED S Series for commercial and educational direct-view display installations; the announcement illustrates adjacent premium-display competition rather than independently proving micro LED chip shipments.

Report Coverage

The full study covers market size and forecast, competitive conditions, value-chain structure, product and application segmentation, regional demand, market drivers, restraints, opportunities and regulatory developments. It provides a 2025 baseline and 2035 outlook and identifies areas where supplier disclosures support, but do not independently establish, Credence Research market estimates.

Three Florida lawsuits allege more than $24 million in unauthorized transfers involving similar account takeover tactics

MIAMI, Oct. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Fowler White Burnett attorneys representing K&A Rosario Holdings, LLC and MJR Fund I, Inc. have filed an amended federal complaint against First Horizon Bank seeking reimbursement of more than $4.5 million remaining from approximately $6.5 million in allegedly unauthorized wire transfers.

The complaint alleges First Horizon permitted the transfers despite prior knowledge of similar fraudulent activity involving other customers. Three pending Florida lawsuits collectively allege more than $24 million in unauthorized or fraudulent transfers between December 2025 and March 2026.

According to the amended complaint, an unauthorized caller contacted First Horizon on March 3, 2026, requesting assistance accessing an account after claiming to have a new cellphone. Within minutes, the accounts were allegedly accessed from an unfamiliar New York IP address. Approximately $6.52 million was subsequently transferred to recipients with whom K&A and MJR allegedly had no prior business relationship.

The complaint alleges First Horizon had been notified in January of an earlier account takeover involving Rabideau Klein, P.A., which alleges approximately $17.28 million in unauthorized wires. The K&A/MJR complaint further alleges $2.29 million went to the same overseas recipient associated with transfers during that earlier incident. A third lawsuit by Nosich & Ganz alleges approximately $604,500 in unauthorized transfers following a December 2025 account takeover.

“The allegations raise serious questions about what First Horizon knew following the earlier incidents and what measures were taken to protect customers from similar attacks,” said Victor M. Velarde, a shareholder at Fowler White. “Our clients are seeking recovery of more than $4.5 million that remains unreimbursed.”

Velarde and Chloe M. Horton of Fowler White represent K&A and MJR in the federal action pending in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
