Islamic finance must compete for mainstream savers and investors, London summit hears

Speakers at the 5th AlBaraka Summit in London call for clearer products, greater transparency and evidence of benefits to communities

LONDON, Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Islamic finance needs to win over ordinary UK savers and investors, and the way to do it is to compete on service, value and trust, speakers told the 5th AlBaraka Summit in London today. They added that the industry also has to show who benefits from the money it manages.

H.E. Yousef Hassan Khalawi, Secretary General of AlBaraka Forum for Islamic Economy, opened the summit with a keynote speech at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, emphasising the importance of ensuring that the principles of fairness and social impact underpin the growth of the Islamic economy, including as new sources of wealth emerge through technologies such as AI. Discussions throughout the day went on to look at how the sector can make its ethical principles visible to customers and communities, from areas such as better service to banking customers to investment that supports jobs, businesses and communities.

The summit’s opening keynotes also included distinguished scholar H.E. Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani, who explained that financial systems must be mindful of interest (riba) and excessive speculation (gharar) and require all wealth creation to be backed by real economic assets rather than money itself. He advocated for structured profit-and-loss sharing models while adapting established Islamic contracts such as Murabahah, alongside instruments and structures such as Sukuk, to the needs of modern finance.

Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Mohamed, Minister of Housing and Lands, Government of Mauritius, emphasised the importance of effective governance, robust regulatory frameworks, and institutional accountability in upholding the ethical foundations of the Islamic economy and strengthening public trust. He explained: “Good intentions are not enough – ethics need systems and trust must be engineered.”

Executive Chairperson of Suluh Centre and Social Activist, Nurul Izzah Anwar Ibrahim, drew on Malaysia’s experience to argue for financial institutions built around the practical needs of families and communities. She highlighted the potential for endowments to support long-term social welfare alongside the banking sector, adding: “The current global financial system sells futures that no one can see and bundles risk so no one knows whose house is at the bottom.”

Mohammad Shoaib Memon, Chief Operating Officer, Arab Bank Europe, said: “I don’t think that this is alternate finance anymore. This has to be seen as mainstream finance.” On reaching a wider audience, he emphasised: “We need to make it simple in communication. We need people to understand it better. We need to explain it better.”

Other speakers pointed to pensions, wealth management and digital banking as the best routes to Muslim and non-Muslim customers alike. Clear and plain language and more openness about where funds are invested would be key to earning trust among consumers and investors alike.

The discussions made a connection between Islamic financial principles and the emphasis on fair value, customer understanding and support within the UK’s Consumer Duty, with speakers arguing that the sector should make those benefits easier for customers to recognise when comparing Western finance products with Islamic Finance products.

Alongside the opportunity for growth, speakers challenged Islamic financial institutions to provide stronger evidence of what their financing achieves.

Irshad Mahmood, Islamic Finance Leader and former Head of Islamic Finance and Partner at Deloitte, asked: “Where is that money actually going? Are you using this money for the benefit of the people?” He argued that institutions should assess Sharia compliance, commercial viability and real-world outcomes together. Raising capital successfully should be accompanied by evidence of its contribution to productivity, employment and other economic and social needs.

Muhammad Nassir Salim, President and Chief Executive Officer of Habib Bank Limited (HBL), called for greater transparency for depositors, including clearer explanations of how their funds are deployed, how risk is managed and how returns are shared.

The need for stronger institutional foundations also ran through discussions on regulation and Islamic social finance.

Mohammed Ali Addarrat, Chairman of Libyan Foreign Bank, reflected on Libya’s experience of restricting interest-based banking, warning of the difficulties created when policy changes run ahead of the institutions, skills and financial arrangements needed to implement them.

Mauritius’s Minister of Housing and Lands, Shakeel Ahmed Yousuf Mohamed, set out work to modernise the country’s framework for waqf, or Islamic endowments, including recognition of cash endowments and arrangements for licensing and supervision.

He pointed to London’s institutional strengths as relevant to the development of Islamic social finance, arguing that effective governance and regulation are essential to protecting funds and ensuring they reach their intended beneficiaries.

Held on 13-14 October under the theme Ethics in Action: Rebuilding Foundations and Advancing the Global Impact of the Islamic Economy, the summit brings together policymakers, scholars and financial industry leaders to examine how Islamic economic principles can deliver tangible benefits across markets and communities.

Day one of the summit hosted several thematic panels discussing topics such as:

Policy, Regulation, and Global Direction, chaired by Shockat Adam MP, Independent Member of Parliament for Leicester SouthRebuilding Market Foundations and Expanding Global Impact across Banking, Investment, and Capital Markets, moderated by Nizam Uddin OBE, Senior Advisor, New World GroupStrengthening Social Security through Social Funds and Takaful, hosted by Abdulla Al Hammadi, Assistant Vice President, Moody’s RatingsActivating Waqf, Qard Hasan, Zakat, and Sadaqat for Social Impact, moderated by Sagheer Malik, Group Chief Commercial Officer & Managing Director Home Finance, Offa

WTIC, a token backed 1:1 by physical WTI crude oil, adds a leading institutional digital asset exchange to its growing trading ecosystem

WTIC, Energy Substantiation’s 1:1 physically backed WTI crude oil token, is now available for institutional spot trading on LMAX DigitalThe listing adds an established institutional exchange to WTIC’s trading ecosystem, alongside Uniswap and BingXEach WTIC represents one barrel of WTI crude oil and is backed 1:1 by verified physical inventory

LARKSPUR, Calif., Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Energy Substantiation today announced the listing of its WTIC token on LMAX Digital, a leading institutional digital assets execution venue and part of LMAX Group. The listing adds an important institutional trading venue to WTIC’s growing ecosystem, alongside Uniswap and BingX, broadening access to physical crude oil through digital asset markets.

Oil is one of the world’s largest and most actively traded commodities, yet the ways investors can participate in its markets have historically centered on futures, exchange-traded funds and energy equities. WTIC introduces direct, physically backed oil exposure through a digital asset.

Each WTIC represents one barrel of WTI crude and is backed 1:1 by verified physical WTI inventory. The token complements established commodity market instruments by introducing a new form of spot commodity exposure, with the flexibility and accessibility of blockchain-based trading. The underlying oil remains in established commercial custody, with independent verification of the physical backing.

“Oil is one of the world’s most important commodities, yet investor access hasn’t evolved with the times,” said JP Thieriot, co-founder and CEO of Energy Substantiation. “Listing WTIC on LMAX Digital is a major step in bringing physically backed oil into institutional digital asset trading and opens up new possibilities for investors, traders, and the broader energy industry.”

LMAX Digital is a regulated institutional digital assets execution venue and custodian and is part of the leading global cross-asset marketplace, LMAX Group. Built on LMAX Group’s proprietary exchange technology, LMAX Digital provides institutional participants with transparent price discovery, efficient execution and access to digital asset liquidity.

“In an environment where major macro events can unfold beyond traditional market hours, including over weekends, tokens like WTIC provide a new avenue for institutions to respond,” said Chris Knight, managing director, LMAX Digital.

The listing advances Energy Substantiation’s broader vision of building new financial infrastructure around physical energy and other commodities.

Support after the sale

Aslan stands behind every product with aftermarket support, including technical assistance and warranty service. Its engineers work directly with customers on integration, troubleshooting, and custom needs, acting as another arm of the customer’s engineering team rather than a parts supplier alone.

More products in development

These five products are the start of a growing catalog. Aslan is actively developing additional components focused on Group 1 through Group 3 unmanned aircraft systems, as well as unmanned ground and maritime platforms. New products will be added to aslanmotion.com as they are released.

“Builders of unmanned systems have told us the same thing for years: they need parts they can trust, manufactured here, at a price that makes sense,” said Moe Barani, CEO of Aslan Motion Technologies. “We priced this line to be reasonable and affordable, so an engineer at a prime, a government lab, or a small startup can order U.S. manufactured components, including NDAA focused electronics, without a long procurement chase. Today is the first step, and we will keep adding products and markets over the coming months.”

The store is built for business buyers, with order requests and general inquiries handled at info@aslanmotion.com and customer service, returns, and warranty support at cs@aslanmotion.com. Aslan plans to extend sales to allied markets in Europe and the Indo-Pacific in later phases.

EAST SIDE GAMES GROUP PROVIDES ADDITIONAL DETAILS ON NEW CREDIT FACILITIES WITH NATIONAL BANK OF CANADA AND EXPORT DEVELOPMENT CANADA

Published

New facilities replace the Company’s Royal Bank of Canada facility and restore its capacity to invest in user acquisition

VANCOUVER, BC, Oct. 15, 2026 /CNW/ — East Side Games Group Inc. (TSX: EAGR) (OTC: EAGRF) (“ESGG” or the “Company”), a leading developer and publisher of free-to-play mobile games, is pleased to provide additional details on its new credit facilities with National Bank of Canada (“NBC”) and Export Development Canada (“EDC”), further to its news release dated October 9, 2026.

The new facilities (together, the “New Facilities”) consist of: (i) a C$3 million revolving line of credit with NBC bearing interest at prime plus 1%, and up to C$3.5M in term loans backed by tax credits bearing interest at prime plus 1.25% maturing when tax credits are received and (ii) a US$4 million term loan with EDC. The amounts that can be drawn on from NBC are limited by estimates of current year IDTMC (75% of accrual) as well as upcoming TSG settlement payments ($500k a quarter). The Company’s credit facility with Royal Bank of Canada (“RBC”) has been repaid in full.

At closing, the Company had drawn approximately C$3.2 million under the New Facilities with C$1 million cash on hand, and approximately C$6.4 million remaining available between all combined facilities. The New Facilities are non-dilutive with no shares, warrants or other equity securities issued to the lenders.

Restoring Investment in User Acquisition

User acquisition (“UA”) is a key driver of revenue growth in the Company’s games. Year to date, limited access to capital has held the Company’s UA investment well below the levels at which it has historically operated, which has weighed on its financial results. The New Facilities significantly ease that constraint. With the capacity and flexibility to return UA spend to normalized levels, the Company expects the benefit to begin appearing in its results in the fourth quarter of 2026 and to build in the periods that follow.

Because UA investment began increasing only in Mid-October, the Company’s third quarter results, which it expects to report on or about November 15, 2026, will reflect the capital constraints that applied for most of the period. The Company expects the fourth quarter to be the first full quarter of UA investment at near-normalized levels.

While the Company continues to expect to fund the development of new titles from operating cash flow, the New Facilities provide additional flexibility to invest in new titles should the need arise.

Balance Sheet

With the RBC facility repaid in full, the Company’s only debt other than the New Facilities is C$5.6 million of loans from insiders. These are long-term loans held by insiders whose interests are aligned with those of the Company’s shareholders.

“For most of this year, access to capital rather than opportunity set the limit on what we could invest in our games, and our results showed it. With National Bank and EDC as partners and our RBC facility repaid in full, we can return user acquisition to normalized levels, and we expect that investment to show in our results beginning in the fourth quarter,” said Jason Bailey, Chief Executive Officer of ESGG.
