Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst expands real-world cybersecurity training across Canada with the support of Google.org

$3.5 million in support from Google.org will help build a national network, giving cybersecurity learners real-world experience while expanding cyber support for Canadian organizations.

TORONTO, Oct. 14, 2026 /CNW/ — Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst at Toronto Metropolitan University (“the Catalyst”) announced today the launch of Cyber Clinics Canada, a major national initiative to expand the cyber clinic model across the country. Backed by $3.5 CAD million in funding from Google.org, including $1 million for the Catalyst, the initiative will bring Canadian postsecondary institutions together to give learners hands-on cybersecurity experience while providing more community organizations with access to critical cybersecurity support.

Cyber clinics are hands-on learning programs that pair cybersecurity learners with nonprofit and social impact organizations that need cybersecurity support. Working under the guidance of experienced professionals, learners gain meaningful, practical experience while organizations receive free cybersecurity support they may not otherwise be able to afford.

In 2025, the Catalyst launched its own cyber clinic. With support from Google.org, Cyber Clinics Canada will build on that foundation to expand the model nationwide. As the network’s central hub, the Catalyst will bring participating institutions together and provide shared tools, resources, and support to help them launch and operate high-quality clinics in their own communities.

“Think of it as a teaching hospital for the digital age. Much like teaching hospitals give future healthcare professionals practical experience while serving patients, cyber clinics give learners the opportunity to tackle current cybersecurity challenges under expert supervision, while providing smaller organizations with support they may not otherwise be able to afford,” said Charles Finlay, the Catalyst’s Founding Executive Director. “Canada needs more cybersecurity graduates who can hit the ground running. This model helps us build that talent while making cybersecurity expertise more accessible to the organizations that need it.”

Cyber clinics are already gaining momentum worldwide, with 61 cyber clinics across eight countries. Cyber Clinics Canada will build on that momentum by creating a connected national network where institutions can share expertise, collaborate, and strengthen their programs. The initiative will also equip institutions with the tools and knowledge to launch their own cyber clinics, creating more opportunities for learners to gain real-world experience and build Canada’s cybersecurity workforce.

“Building a strong, diverse and skilled cybersecurity workforce is more important than ever,” said Sabrina Geremia, vice-president and country manager, Google Canada. “Cyber clinics are a proven, scalable model and expanding this program across Canada will meaningfully improve access to cyber education while delivering critical support to vulnerable organizations that serve Canadians.”

“Protecting Ontario means building a robust cybersecurity workforce, trained right at Ontario’s world-class postsecondary institutions,” said Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security for the Government of Ontario. “Thanks to support from Google, Cyber Clinics Canada will ensure that postsecondary institutes all across the nation can deliver coordinated,  hands-on cybersecurity education that will protect our data for decades to come.”

IDSA and Conexiant Launch IDSA Reporter, a Trusted News Destination for Infectious Disease Professionals

New platform pairs IDSA’s scientific authority with Conexiant’s publishing and engagement capabilities to turn fast-moving developments into practical clinical insight

TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Infectious Diseases Society of America and Conexiant today announced the launch of IDSA Reporter, a year-round digital news platform designed to help infectious diseases professionals quickly understand what new evidence, guidance, policy decisions and public health developments mean for clinical practice and public health.

New year-round platform delivers trusted infectious disease news, expert insights and practical clinical guidance.

Few areas of medicine move as quickly as infectious diseases. Emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, new evidence, evolving screening and treatment guidance and fast-moving developments in epidemiology and public health create a constant flow of information that can be difficult to evaluate. IDSA Reporter will cut through that noise by bringing authoritative reporting, expert context and practical interpretation together in one destination.

Coverage will include breaking news, major research and guideline updates, public health and policy developments, reporting from IDWeek and other major meetings that cover breaking infectious disease developments, expert commentary and analysis of implications for clinical and public health practice. Content will be delivered through IDSAReporter.com, recurring email newsletters and social media channels.

“In infectious diseases, the challenge is not simply gaining access to information; it is quickly determining what is authoritative, clinically relevant and worth acting on,” said Charlie Lee, Chief Executive Officer of Conexiant. “IDSA brings unmatched scientific authority and access to leading experts. Conexiant brings the specialty publishing, technology and HCP engagement capabilities to extend that authority across channels and throughout the year. Together, we are creating an always-on destination that helps infectious disease professionals move from breaking development to clinical meaning.”

From Breaking Developments to Clinical Meaning

IDSA Reporter introduces an always-on publishing model for a field where evidence, guidance and public health conditions can change rapidly. Timely journalism will be paired with expert interpretation and practical clinical context, shortening the distance between a new development and a health care professional’s understanding of what it means for patient care.

The collaboration brings together IDSA’s scientific authority, subject matter expertise and access to leading infectious disease experts with Conexiant’s newsroom, specialty publishing, technology and audience-development capabilities. Together, the organizations will create a year-round destination that helps clinicians quickly understand what new evidence, guidance, policy decisions and emerging threats mean for patient care and public health.

“Infectious disease professionals need news and information they can trust, but they also need it delivered with the speed and context required by today’s environment,” said Jeanne Marrazzo, MD, FIDSA, CEO of IDSA. “IDSA Reporter extends our commitment to the field by creating a year-round connection between our ID community and the clinicians, scientists and public health professionals who rely on credible information to make the decisions that save lives.”

Engaging the Infectious Disease Community Year-Round

The platform will draw on IDSA’s global community of more than 13,000 clinicians, scientists and public health experts and Conexiant’s relationships with nearly 200 associations, publishers and health systems, broadening the reach and useful life of important infectious disease information.

IDSA Reporter is now live at IDSAReporter.com. Launching ahead of IDWeek 2026, taking place October 21–24 in Washington, D.C., the platform will debut with comprehensive meeting coverage and continue year-round across the website, newsletters and social channels.

Casio’s smart companion gets its first new color, arriving in the U.S. in time for the holidays

JERSEY CITY, N.J., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Casio America, Inc. launched Pink Moflin (PE-M11PK), the first new color for its furry smart companion. Pink Moflin joins the original gold and silver models and is available now at casio.com/us/moflin.

The Pink Moflin was inspired directly by its fans. Following Moflin’s debut in Japan in November 2024, the most frequent request from owners was for a pink version. In response, Casio Japan introduced Sakura Pink on September 4, 2026.. The soft pink color was selected to evoke feelings of comfort, warmth, and calm, reflecting the emotional support and companionship Moflin is designed to provide.

“Ever since Moflin launched, pink is the color owners have asked for most,” said Brian Piccolo, General Manager of Sound & Innovation at Casio America. “Cozy culture is about soothing colors and soft materials. Pink suits that perfectly. We’re glad to bring it to owners here in the United States.”

Same Moflin, new look

Pink Moflin has the same personality capabilities as every Moflin. Its emotional algorithm can develop more than 4 million possible personality combinations, shaped by how its owner pets, holds and talks to it. Over its first 50 days, a Moflin learns the sound of its owner’s voice, grows more expressive, and starts to show attachment. No two end up exactly alike.

Moflin suits people who love animals but can’t keep a pet, including renters, frequent travelers and people with pet allergies. Since launch, Moflin has surpassed 20,000 units sold in Japan.

Key details:

Size and weight: About 5.1 × 3.5 × 7.1 inches and 9.2 ounces

Battery: Built-in lithium-ion (3.7V, 1200mAh) with up to 5 hours of use. Time to full charge is about 3.5 hours in its included bed

Sensors: Touch, sound, light, accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to interpret interactions

Privacy: Moflin does not understand or record speech. Voice features are converted to non-identifiable data and stored on the device.

MofLife app: Owners can check their Moflin’s mood, name it, review a daily journal, and adjust volume on iOS and Android.

In the box: Moflin, charging bed, USB AC adapter, USB-C cable (for bed), and quick start guide, with a one-year warranty

Pricing and availability

Pink Moflin (PE-M11PK) is available starting October 1, 2026, for $429 at casio.com/us/moflin.

LA Spring Preview Market Week – May 17-21, 2027
LA Fall Preview Market Weeks – September 13-24, 2027

NEW YORK, Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Toy Association today confirmed 2027 dates for the LA Spring Preview Week and announced dates for the LA Fall Preview Market Weeks, which will drive business growth for the global toy and play community at The Toy Association’s Toy Building as well as dozens of additional showrooms throughout the LA Toy District.

The LA Spring Preview Market Week will take place May 17 to 21, 2027, followed by the LA Fall Preview Market Weeks from September 13 to 24, 2027. Together, the events will allow buyers and sellers to forge new relationships, advance strategic priorities, identify opportunities for future growth, and discover the latest toys, trends, and innovations.

“The Toy Association, in conjunction with the newly formed International Toy Board, want to build on the incredible momentum of the 2026 LA Fall Preview Market Weeks as we look ahead to an even bigger and more impactful 2027 — a year that will evolve and strengthen the LA preview experience to deliver even more opportunities for companies to succeed,” said Greg Ahearn, president & CEO of The Toy Association. “The energy and enthusiasm from tenants, retailers, and industry partners at The Toy Building was amazing, with everyone using the event to put meaningful business plans into motion for next year, reinforcing LA’s role as a critical industry gathering place and The Toy Building a key hub for these activities. The tremendous positivity we continue to see in LA and across our other Toy Association events — including Toy Fair New York and the Chicago Toy & Game Fair — is a powerful demonstration of the resilience, creativity, and strong outlook of the toy industry.”

Companies looking for a year-round presence in the heart of LA’s toy hub are invited to establish their ultimate showroom at The Toy Association’s Toy Building, located at 101 Continental Blvd. in El Segundo. Designed by toy people, for toy people, The Toy Building offers state-of-the-art facilities, dedicated on-site support from The Toy Association, and a central location that puts companies at the center of a thriving manufacturer community. Coming out of September, The Toy Building’s original four floors are now almost completely filled with permanent tenants. Due to this high demand, The Toy Association is in the process of adding two additional floors — an additional 50,000 square feet — to the space.

With showroom options for companies of all sizes — from established global brands to emerging toy businesses — The Toy Building provides a year-round platform for buyer meetings, product discovery and relationship building, with particularly strong activity during the spring and fall market periods.

“The September 2026 LA Fall Preview Market Weeks delivered an exceptional experience for the industry, surpassing even our most optimistic expectations,” said Kimberly Carcone, executive vice president of global experiences at The Toy Association. “The energy, engagement, and business results generated across the marketplace were truly remarkable. Showrooms were active, appointments were productive, and companies of all sizes were forging new partnerships, unveiling innovative product lines, and driving the business of play forward. The level of participation throughout the market reinforced the continued importance of in-person connection as a catalyst for innovation, collaboration, and commercial success — and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2027!”

From networking and education to showcasing the latest lines, trends, and innovations, the 2027 LA Preview Market Weeks will deliver a dynamic experience as part of The Toy Association’s ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for the global toy and play community to connect, discover, learn and do business throughout the year. Educational programming for 2027 will once again include partnerships with Circana and X Tracks Licensing Summit; additional sessions and special events will be announced in the coming months. The Toy Association also produces the consumer-facing Chicago Toy & Game Fair, (November 7–8, 2026) and Toy Fair New York (February 20–23, 2027), the largest toy trade show in the Western Hemisphere.
