Lytx Expands Dynamic Risk with Speed for Conditions, Helping Fleets Act on the Difference Between Legal Speed and Safe Speed

New AI-powered capability alerts drivers when they may be moving too fast for real-world road conditions, further advancing Lytx’s proactive, context-aware approach to fleet management

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Lytx® Inc., the industry leader in AI-powered fleet management, today announced the expansion of Lytx’s Dynamic Risk with Speed for Conditions, a new capability that helps commercial fleets identify when a driver may be traveling too fast for current road conditions, not just when they exceed a posted speed limit.

Available now, Speed for Conditions uses Lytx’s machine vision and artificial intelligence (MV+AI) technology to detect changing road conditions due to inclement weather. It then calculates a fleet-configured condition-adjusted speed threshold that can be used to alert drivers in the cab when their speed may create elevated risk. The result is a more contextual, real-time approach to speeding that is designed for the road as it actually is, not just the number on the sign.

Dynamic Risk is Lytx’s advanced suite of features designed to help fleets identify, assess, and act on environmental risk in real time. By combining what is happening inside and outside the cab with road context, weather intelligence, and insights from over 341 billion miles of driving data, Dynamic Risk gives fleets a clearer view of how risks build, stack, and escalate, helping drivers and managers take action before small hazards become serious incidents.

“Every driver knows the speed limit, but the speed limit is not always the safe speed,” said Chris Cabrera, Chief Executive Officer at Lytx. “With Speed for Conditions, we’re helping fleets move beyond static measures of risk and toward real-time intelligence that reflects what drivers are actually facing on the road. This is the next step in our Dynamic Risk vision: helping drivers self-correct in the moment and giving managers the context they need to coach fairly, prioritize effectively, and operate more safely.”

How Speed for Conditions Works

Detect: On-device MV+AI helps classify adverse weather conditions in real time.Calculate: The system computes a Condition Adjusted Speed Limit using each fleet’s configurable speed-reduction policy for weather conditions.Alert: When a driver exceeds the adjusted threshold for a sustained 30-second interval, an in-cab alert can notify the driver through audio, LED, or both.Record and score: The event is tagged as Speed for Conditions, treated as a distinct behavior from standard speeding, reflected in the Dynamic Risk Index, and queued for coaching with supporting context.

Coaches can review the full context in the Event Viewer, including actual speed, effective threshold, and the road condition detected. This helps managers explain why an event was unsafe, strengthen driver buy-in, and reinforce safer decision-making without treating every speeding event the same.

Broader Dynamic Risk Capabilities
Speed for Conditions joins a growing set of current and upcoming Dynamic Risk capabilities designed to help fleets respond to risk with greater precision:

In-Cab Weather Alerts (available now): Real-time weather notifications help increase driver awareness of approaching hazardous conditions, while manager notifications can support rerouting, scheduling changes, or other precautionary action.Weather Tagging (available now): Dynamic Risk weather tagging covers close to 100% of events, including nighttime driving through ambient light detection. Wet Road and Snowy Road detection are available at night when ambient light is present, while Low Visibility tagging remains daylight-only by design.Roadwork Detection (available now): Leverages machine vision to identify active construction and roadwork zones so fleets can better understand delay, schedule, and safety impacts.Dynamic Adjust for Zones (coming soon): Camera control introduces geofence-driven policy controls that can automatically adjust camera behavior, MV+AI enable/disable, and zone-specific speed control when a vehicle enters or exits defined areas.Route Hazards (coming soon): Helps flag elevated-risk routes before they become a problem, including low-clearance bridges and high-risk intersections, so fleets can plan around known hazards rather than react to them.

Together, these capabilities help fleets capture richer environmental context, prioritize the highest-risk events, coach with more precision, and take proactive steps to help protect drivers, reduce collisions, control claims, and operate more efficiently.

“Dynamic Risk is about giving fleets the intelligence to see risk sooner and respond with confidence,” continued Cabrera. “Whether it’s rain, snow, roadwork, pedestrian activity, or a zone-specific policy, we’re helping turn complex road context into clear, actionable guidance for drivers and managers.”

Can we produce low-cost omega-3s without relying on fish?

Published

By

GOLD COAST, Australia, Oct. 19, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Southern Cross University researchers are aiming to halve the cost of producing omega-3 supplements to make these essential nutrients more accessible to pregnant women and infants in low-income countries, backed by the University’s first-ever grant from The Gates Foundation.

The research takes a novel approach: rather than relying on fish oil, the team is going closer to the original source of omega-3. Fish don’t produce omega-3 themselves – they accumulate it from marine microorganisms lower in the food chain.

Led by Professor Dirk Erler from Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering, the team is investigating how these naturally omega-3-producing microorganisms can be grown more cheaply through precision fermentation, including the use of agricultural and food-processing by-products as a source of fermentation sugar.

Omega-3 is an important nutrient during pregnancy and early life, supporting brain and nervous system development in babies. But the cost of supplements remains a significant barrier to access in many low-income countries.

“The main barrier for the uptake of omega-3s as supplements in pregnant women is the cost,” Professor Erler said.

“The whole objective of our project is to reduce that cost and make omega-3 supplements more available.”

The research team at Southern Cross University, which includes biomedical scientist Dr Nedeljka Rosic, Dr Shane McIntosh, postdoctoral researcher Dr Jasmine Haskell and PhD researcher Michael Ingram, is focused on growing omega-3-producing marine microorganisms known as thraustochytrids – or ‘throstys’ for short.

“By growing those microorganisms on land through precision fermentation, we have an alternative way of producing omega-3s that is both reliable and highly targeted,” Professor Erler said.

Precision fermentation allows the researchers to grow thraustochytrids under controlled conditions to produce omega-3 oils. The team is investigating whether expensive feedstocks used in the process can be replaced with lower-cost agricultural and food-processing by-products, helping drive down the overall cost of production.

The approach could also reduce reliance on wild-caught fish as a source of omega-3 oil and create a more reliable, scalable, and local supply.

For biomedical scientist Dr Nedeljka Rosic, the production challenge is ultimately about what greater access to omega-3 could mean for women and babies.

“As a biomedical scientist, my purpose is to find ways to use science to improve people’s health,” Dr Rosic said.

“This project is important because it aims to improve the health of pregnant women and children and reduce preterm births through simple dietary improvements.”
