University Medical Center Göttingen Takes a New Approach to the Use of Clinical Data

Published

on

UMG is advancing its data integration center and becomes the first German university hospital to introduce MDClone’s internationally established ADAMS model.

Göttingen, Germany and BEER-SHEVA, Israel, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) is the first hospital in Germany and the European Union to introduce MDClone’s ADAMS platform. The platform will build on UMG’s existing data integration center, UMG-MeDIC, making the clinical data already consolidated there easier and more secure to use for research, patient care, and quality management.

In doing so, UMG adopts ADAMS by MDClone, a data utilization model already in use at leading international healthcare institutions such as UChicago Medicine, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, and Sheba Medical Center.

“With ADAMS, we are the first university medical center in Germany and the EU to adopt an internationally proven model of data utilization. Our aim is to make our data infrastructure even more accessible to our staff,” says Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Brück, Chairman of the Executive Board, Executive Board Member for Research and Teaching, and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University Medical Center Göttingen. “Particularly in an increasingly challenging economic environment, innovation is becoming a decisive factor for the future viability of hospitals. Data can help us better understand care processes, identify areas for improvement, and advance medical quality and economic efficiency together on a data-driven basis.”

With ADAMS, authorized staff will be able to explore longitudinal clinical data independently within a controlled and secure framework and investigate questions without relying on central IT or analytics resources for every analysis. The goal is to make data available more quickly for research questions, the further development of treatment pathways, quality improvement, and the analysis of clinical processes.

Synthetic Data for Faster Research Projects and Stronger Data Protection

Another focus is on synthetic data. Based on real clinical data, the ADAMS platform can generate synthetic datasets that reflect the statistical properties of the original data without sharing real patient records. This opens up additional opportunities for research, for the development and testing of AI applications, and for collaboration with other scientific institutions and external partners.

“With the Medical Informatics Initiative, Germany has created a strong foundation for the use of clinical data. The task now is to generate as much value as possible from this infrastructure for research and patient care,” says Bruno Lempernesse, CEO of MDClone. “Internationally, we see healthcare systems moving from merely providing data toward active, organization-wide data utilization. The University Medical Center Göttingen is now the first institution in Germany and the EU to take this path.”

UMG-MeDIC was established as part of the nationwide Medical Informatics Initiative (MII). With ADAMS, UMG is systematically advancing this existing infrastructure and adding a utilization layer for research, patient care, and quality management. This is intended to ensure that the investments made have a lasting impact beyond individual funding periods.

About the University Medical Center Göttingen

The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) unites the Faculty of Medicine of the Georg-August-University and the University Hospital under one roof in an integrated model. Alongside research, teaching, and transfer, patient care is one of UMG’s core responsibilities.

As the only tertiary care provider in southern Lower Saxony, the hospital has approximately 1,700 inpatient and day-patient beds. All basic medical disciplines are represented, as well as a wide range of specialized disciplines in diagnostics and therapy. Each year, UMG treats around 55,000 inpatients and approximately 280,000 outpatients.

With nearly 9,800 employees, UMG and its subsidiaries are among the largest employers in the region. Around 60 clinics, institutes, and departments stand for high-quality patient care, excellent research, modern teaching, and innovative technology transfer.

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Sharpa, an AI robotics company focused on dexterous manipulation, today unveiled three flagship products at the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS) 2026: D01, an integrated robot built for dexterous manipulation; W02, a compact, lightweight dexterous hand with full-hand tactile sensing; and AE01, a haptic exoskeleton data glove for teleoperation and data capture.

The new lineup addresses three connected needs in robotics development: executing coordinated physical tasks, sensing and controlling contact with objects, and collecting human demonstrations to support robot learning. Together, the products expand Sharpa’s hardware portfolio for developing robots that can use everyday tools and work in environments designed for people.

D01: the First Integrated Tactile-sensing Robot Built for Dexterous Manipulation

D01 brings together Sharpa Wave dexterous hands, seven-degree-of-freedom arms and whole-body electronic skin.

Built to combine strength, speed and precision, D01 offers an approximately 1:1 arm payload-to-weight ratio, a maximum end-effector speed exceeding 10.5 meters per second, a communication frequency of 1,000 Hz and end-effector repeatability of 0.2 millimeters. Human-scale spherical wrist joints support manipulation in workspaces and around tools designed for people.

D01’s electronic skin extends contact sensing across the body, with a tactile sampling rate of 100 Hz and force resolution of 0.2 newtons. This additional feedback enables the robot to detect physical contact across its body and supports responsive interaction with objects and its surroundings.

W02: a Next-generation, Fully tactile, Ultra-compact and Lightweight Dexterous Hand

Building on Sharpa’s W01 dexterous hand, W02 combines 21 active degrees of freedom with a compact structure weighing less than 750 grams. Its smaller, lighter design reduces loading on the robot arm and supports integration into workspaces built around human-hand dimensions.

W02 combines Sharpa’s proprietary Dynamic Tactile Array at the fingertips with electronic skin across the fingers and palm. Fingertip sensors provide a force sensing range of 5 millinewtons to 30 newtons and spatial resolution of 1 millimeter. The electronic skin extends tactile coverage with a force sensing range of 0.1–20 newtons and spatial resolution of 5 millimeters.

The hand’s zero-gap grasping capability supports the handling of slender objects such as chopsticks and fine cords. IP54-rated protection against dust and water splashes supports use in varied working environments. These features are designed to help robots handle everyday objects and tools while maintaining tactile feedback throughout the interaction.

AE01: a High-fidelity Haptic Exoskeleton Data Glove

AE01 is a high-fidelity haptic exoskeleton data glove designed for robot teleoperation and egocentric data capture. Its 22-degree-of-freedom design incorporates 22 encoders to capture joint motion, providing movement data for real-time robot control and the collection of manipulation demonstrations.

AE01 provides 256 levels of dynamic vibrotactile feedback at each fingertip, giving operators tactile cues to support adjustments during teleoperation. It also offers fingertip position repeatability of less than 1 millimeter.

The glove requires no additional user calibration and is designed to resist environmental interference, simplifying setup and supporting data collection across different operating environments. By combining motion capture with haptic feedback, AE01 gives researchers and developers a practical interface for guiding robotic actions and collecting training data.

Advancing Dexterous Manipulation to Real-World Tasks

With D01, W02 and AE01, Sharpa is expanding the tools available to develop, control and train robots for tasks involving sustained physical contact. The portfolio supports the company’s broader goal of making robotic manipulation useful across increasingly complex workflows, from handling individual objects to completing connected tasks in real-world environments.

Cross-sector leaders will develop practical guidance on responsible use cases, trustworthy technical foundations and workable guardrails for agentic AI

SINGAPORE, Sept. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Sumsub, the first AI-powered trust infrastructure for compliance operations at scale, today announced the launch of the Sumsub Agentic AI Council (the “Council”), an APAC-focused cross-sector forum that convenes expertise to develop practical frameworks, advance shared best practices and inform responsible agentic AI adoption.

The Council is now calling for leaders and experts from policy, academia, technology, industry and civil society to express interest in participating as founding Council advisors. By bringing together cross-sector perspectives, the Council will examine the real-world conditions needed to deploy agentic AI responsibly, including identity, delegated authority, security, transparency, accountability and oversight.

AI agents are rapidly evolving from experimental tools into systems capable of planning, making decisions and taking actions on behalf of individuals and organizations. Emerging use cases such as agentic commerce illustrate their growing real world impact, with Deloitte reporting that nearly three-quarters of APAC consumers already use AI to discover, compare, and research products. Meanwhile, 95% of businesses are already using or piloting multi-step AI systems with limited human input. Yet, recent incidents have demonstrated how AI systems can operate beyond their intended scope or take unexpected actions, underscoring the importance of accountability, transparency and human oversight. Across APAC, the common challenge is to unlock the value of autonomous AI while ensuring it can be trusted, controlled and deployed responsibly.

Regional policy and standards initiatives signal growing recognition of the opportunities and considerations associated with agentic AI. Singapore’s Model AI Governance Framework for Agentic AI, Mainland China’s efforts to develop standards for AI agent identity and interoperability, Hong Kong SAR‘s 2026 Policy Address proposal for cross-sector AI agent safety-management guidelines, and the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong SAR (SFC)’s exploration of new guidance on the use of AI agents in the financial services sector signal the same trend. However, as the agentic AI landscape continues to evolve rapidly, practical insights from businesses and technical experts will be equally important in informing how agentic AI is deployed at scale, governed and trusted in practice.

Building on its expertise across verification, fraud prevention and compliance, Sumsub has developed AI capabilities that support both the use and governance of AI agents, including the platform-native AI assistant, Summy AI Copilot; Know Your Agent (KYA) framework; and MCP integration capabilities. These developments reflect Sumsub’s focus on building trust and accountability in the emerging AI ecosystem. Recognizing the need for greater cross-sector dialogue, Sumsub is launching the Council to bring together diverse perspectives and translate discussion into actionable recommendations for industry and policymakers.

“The opportunity presented by agentic AI is becoming clearer with every new use case, but the conditions for responsible adoption in environments with real financial, operational and regulatory consequences are still taking shape, even as they become increasingly business-critical,” notes Jason Chan, APAC Government Relations Lead at Sumsub. “Drawing on our work helping organizations build trust and accountability in digital interactions, we have a front-row view of these challenges and see an opportunity to accelerate trusted and scalable AI adoption with the Sumsub Agentic AI Council.”

Bridging Innovation, Infrastructure and Accountability in Agentic AI

Through its three pillars—Adopt, Build and Govern—the Council will translate insights into outputs, including guidance on responsible AI adoption, research and industry reports, stakeholder dialogues and thought leadership initiatives.

Adopt: Explore responsible and impactful applications of agentic AI across the digital economy, including compliance, fraud prevention, customer experience and operational efficiency.Build: Advance the technical and operational foundations required for trustworthy AI agents, including agent identity, verifiable credentials, secure architectures, traceability and interoperability.Govern: Address the policies, standards and accountability mechanisms needed as AI systems gain greater autonomy, helping clarify responsibilities and develop practical governance approaches.

“The conversation around AI often begins with capability. Sustainable adoption, however, will depend not only on what these systems can do, but also on how confidently organizations can deploy and govern them,” emphasized Mick Amelishko, AI Advocate at Sumsub. “The Council will create a platform where experts from different disciplines can share perspectives and help advance approaches that support the responsible development of agentic AI.”

Calling for Experts to Contribute to the Next Phase of Agentic AI Adoption

Founding advisors will contribute to workstreams across the Adopt, Build and Govern pillars, helping develop a practical framework covering AI agent identity, delegated authority, interoperability and auditability. The Council’s first working group is expected to focus on agentic commerce, exploring the identity, accountability, and oversight considerations that may arise when AI agents act on behalf of consumers and businesses.

Expressions of interest are now open. Founding Council advisors will be announced ahead of  the inaugural Council meeting in Q1 2027. To express interest in becoming a founding advisor, please visit here.
