Disrupting Business Banking: Scott Shay Challenges the Fractional-Reserve Model

Published

on

On Disruption Interruption, Scott Shay, Founder of N3XT, explains why traditional banking can expose businesses to risks they may not realize they are taking and how full-reserve banking could give companies more certainty over the money they hold and move.

TAMPA BAY, Fla., Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), estimated uninsured domestic deposits at FDIC-insured institutions rose $233.5 billion in the first quarter of 2026. FDIC insurance generally covers up to $250,000 per depositor at each insured bank. Businesses holding larger balances may therefore have deposits that are not fully insured. Scott Shay, Founder of N3XT, joins host Karla Jo Helms (KJ) on the Disruption Interruption Podcast to question what businesses assume happens after money enters a bank account and why moving that money can still take days. “When you put your money in the bank, you think it’s there for you,” Shay says.

What Businesses Assume About a Bank Deposit

Shay describes fractional-reserve banking as a system in which customer deposits support loans and other bank assets while account holders continue to see a balance available to them. For businesses holding substantial operating cash, he says that creates exposure to decisions they may know little about. “You don’t know what they’ve done,” Shay says. “You know they have a balance sheet. You know once a year it is audited, but you basically take your money, put it in a big pile with all sorts of other depositors, and trust that the bank will invest it well.”

That risk becomes visible when a bank’s assets lose value or become difficult to liquidate. Shay points to the 2008 financial crisis, when long-term mortgage exposure contributed to failures and government intervention across the financial system. He does not argue that lending should disappear. He argues that depositors should know when their capital is being used to support it. “Let’s be transparent,” Shay says. “Let’s be fair to the people who are providing the capital.”

Payments create a second concern for businesses moving large sums. Traditional transfers can pass through settlement windows and intermediary banks before funds become final and available to the recipient, leaving working capital tied up during the process. For Shay, the infrastructure itself is overdue for modernization. “I just recognized how so 1970s and ’80s our rails are,” he says.

Full Reserves Meet Real-Time Settlement

Shay built N3XT around a full-reserve model in which deposits are not lent to borrowers. Instead, he says customer funds are held in cash and short-term U.S. Treasuries, generally with maturities of about one month or less. “We’re the only bank in the United States where all your money is there all the time, we don’t lend it out,” Shay says.

The reserve model is paired with a blockchain-based core designed for real-time business payments. Shay says transfers settle in seconds, making the funds available to the recipient immediately instead of leaving the transaction pending through traditional settlement cycles. “When you move money with us, if I move a million dollars to you, you can spend that million dollars seconds later,” he says. “As soon as it shows up, you can spend it.”

Shay points to shipping and logistics because payment often depends on confirming that goods have arrived and the required trade documents are in order. In a typical transaction, he says, one party may have to prepay, accept credit risk, or arrange a letter of credit while the shipment is in transit. N3XT can program the transaction so that once delivery is verified, the payment, bill of lading, certificate of origin, and other approvals move together. For Shay, the broader goal is to make business payments work more directly for the parties completing any transaction. “Money should work for the buyer and the seller, not just for the bank,” Shay says.

WePlay Teams Up with the TV Anime Attack on Titan for a U.S. Themed Campaign

Published

on

By

NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — WePlay, a social entertainment app operated by Singapore-based WEJOY PTE. LTD., will launch a themed collaboration with the TV anime Attack on Titan for users in the United States from October 9 to 31, 2026. The campaign will introduce themed pages, limited visual content and online interactive experiences throughout October, giving users new ways to discover the collaboration while playing and connecting with friends.

An October Collaboration Built Around Shared Participation

The campaign will bring the TV anime Attack on Titan into WePlay’s U.S. social entertainment experience through a series of themed content updates. Rather than presenting the collaboration as a separate destination, WePlay will integrate it into the multiplayer games, avatars, voice rooms and community interaction that users already encounter across the app.

Content will be introduced according to the campaign schedule, creating recurring moments for users to return, follow updates and talk about the collaboration together. Users will be able to experience the campaign during everyday game sessions and online gatherings, making the collaboration a shared topic across different parts of the WePlay experience.

The U.S. campaign with the TV anime Attack on Titan will add another theme for users to discover, discuss and experience together. It also reflects WePlay’s continued exploration of cross-cultural content collaborations that can complement multiplayer play and real-time online interaction.

“Users in the United States connect interests across games, animation and online communities in many different ways,” said a WePlay spokesperson. “This collaboration will introduce a new shared topic while allowing users to participate through the multiplayer games and real-time interaction they already know on WePlay. We will continue developing localized content and cross-cultural collaborations that give users more to discover, enjoy and share whenever they open the app.”

Multiplayer Games as a Natural Starting Point for Online Interaction

WePlay combines multiplayer party games, voice-based interaction, avatars, voice rooms and themed online events in one social entertainment app. Games provide a clear shared activity, giving participants something immediate to discuss, react to and enjoy together.

WePlay offers different styles of play for different group dynamics. Who is Spy centers on language, deduction and expression. Space Werewolf brings social deduction and team interaction into a real-time multiplayer setting. Draw & Guess encourages creative interpretation, while Grab Mic combines music with voice-based participation. Together, these experiences give users multiple ways to join a group, spend time with friends and take part in casual online entertainment.

Interaction can continue after a round ends. Users can move into voice rooms, express themselves through avatars and profiles, and discover new themes through ongoing in-app events. This combination allows shared play to develop into a broader social experience, connecting the immediate energy of a multiplayer game with continued conversation and personal expression.

Building Localized Content Across Markets

Alongside product updates, WePlay develops anniversary celebrations, seasonal campaigns, locally inspired programs and IP collaborations for users in different markets. These initiatives are designed to enter the same spaces where users already play and interact, including games, voice rooms, avatars and community features.

WePlay adapts communication and content presentation to local languages, cultural contexts and user habits. Previous initiatives have included Songkran-themed content in Thailand, anniversary campaigns in Japan, culturally focused collaborations in the Middle East and IP programs across multiple regions. WePlay has also launched themed collaborations involving Care Bears, Chibi Maruko-chan, Bugcat Capoo and the Emirati animated IP Freej.

In April 2025, WePlay’s Thailand Songkran campaign was featured on the App Store Today homepage in Thailand. In January 2026, WePlay’s brand campaign appeared on a Times Square digital billboard in New York. These milestones form part of WePlay’s ongoing effort to connect localized content experience with broader international brand communication.

New Free Platform Helps Americans Organize Around Proposed AI Data Centers Near Their Homes

Residents can organize their communities, track nearby data center development and research where local politicians stand

NEW YORK, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Architect Digital today launched a free platform that lets residents look up proposed AI data centers near their homes, register their view and organize their community. Residents enter a ZIP code to find nearby projects and see how their community feels. Architect Digital tracks local community sentiment toward data center development on more than 1,100 proposed data centers across all 50 states.

Why Architect Digital exists
According to a Gallup poll, more than 70% of Americans oppose data center construction in their area. Every data center has neighbors. Those neighbors feel the impact of data centers but often lack the information and organizing tools to shape the decisions affecting their communities. Local residents may also learn about proposed data centers only after important decisions are already underway or have been made by local authorities. Some online discussions about data centers show signs of coordinated inauthentic behavior, in which networks of fake or misrepresented accounts post in concert to make a position appear more widely held than it is. That makes it difficult for residents to know whether the people participating in discussions actually live in their community.

Architect Digital gives residents one place to find out what is proposed near them and where their community stands. The platform is neutral on data centers and welcomes every point of view.

“Data centers are being built in towns across America. Our mission is to make sure residents have the information and tools they need to understand what is happening in their communities and to make their voices heard,” said Janine Yorio, spokesperson for the company.

What residents can do on Architect Digital
The platform is free to use. Residents can:

Find proposed data centers near them.Register their stance and track changes in local sentiment.Share facts with neighbors.Organize their community.See which local, state and federal officials have stated a position on data center development.Report projects or events the platform is missing.Become a Community Organizer.

The long-term goal is collective bargaining for everyday Americans: giving residents a way to coordinate under shared rules, to build negotiating power and to participate in the decision-making process. Architect Digital helps local residents measure and increase their impact on their communities.

About Architect Digital
Architect Digital is a technology platform that connects communities with the real estate projects around them, starting with data centers. Architect Digital is being built with blockchain technology. Participation is free, and there is nothing to buy, sell or invest in. No token or cryptocurrency has been issued, and any future issuance would be subject to regulatory review. Architect Digital was created by Everyrealm Inc.
