Prestigious Annual Awards Program Recognizes Companies and Products Driving Innovation in the Global Clean Technology Industry

BEVERLY, Mass., April 10, 2025 /CNW/ — Highland Electric Fleets, the leading provider of school bus fleet electrification-as-a-service, today announced it has been selected as “Clean Technology Transportation Company of the Year” in the second annual CleanTech Breakthrough Awards program conducted by CleanTech Breakthrough, a leading independent market intelligence organization that evaluates and recognizes standout climate and clean technology companies, products and services around the globe.

Highland’s mission is to make the physical and mental health benefits of electric school buses more accessible and affordable for everyone. While converting a fleet to electric can be a complex process, Highland simplifies the transition with end-to-end support—managing everything from initial planning and securing funding to vehicle procurement, charging infrastructure, and ongoing maintenance. As a category-defining leader in electrification-as-a-service, Highland ensures that fleet operators have a dependable partner at every stage of the electrification journey.

When districts and municipalities partner with Highland to make the switch to electric school buses, they create healthier environments for their students and communities. Electric school buses produce zero tailpipe emissions, which improves air quality in and around schools. Studies show that this switch reduces children’s exposure to harmful pollutants by 16%, lowering the risk of asthma flare-ups and hospital visits. Cleaner air also supports better academic outcomes. Students who ride electric buses experience an 8% lower absenteeism rate. Reduced exposure to emissions has been linked to improved cognitive function, helping children stay more focused and engaged in class.

Electric school buses not only improve community air quality, but also provide a smoother and quieter ride, creating a more comfortable and less stressful experience for students. This calm, quiet environment is especially helpful for neurodivergent students who may find the noise and vibration of traditional school buses overwhelming. By transitioning to electric fleets, districts and municipalities help ensure that every ride is safe, quiet, and enjoyable for all students.

In addition, Highland helps districts maximize the benefits of electric buses while enhancing energy resilience. One way this is achieved is through vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, which allows electric school buses to function as mobile energy storage units. V2G installations enable the batteries in electric vehicles to discharge energy back to the grid during periods of peak demand, helping stabilize the grid and lower costs. In addition to supporting the grid, electric school buses equipped with V2G can provide emergency power to buildings and community centers during outages, offering a valuable resource for communities.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from CleanTech Breakthrough and proud to partner with school districts and cities across the country who are committed to providing cleaner, healthier rides for students and local communities,” said Duncan McIntyre, CEO of Highland Electric Fleets. “This award reflects the trust and leadership of our partners to invest in advanced technology that delivers clean, reliable electric fleets that reduce operating costs over time.”

The mission of the annual CleanTech Breakthrough Awards program is to spotlight and celebrate the global innovators who are transforming the climate and clean technology landscape. The program aims to perform the industry’s most comprehensive analysis of standout leaders and technologies shaping a more sustainable future. This year’s program received thousands of nominations from more than 14 countries worldwide, reflecting the global momentum and impact of clean technology advancements.

“Highland is helping organizations get tomorrow’s fleet on today’s budget. Building an electric fleet’s infrastructure and selecting the right technology is a big project. Many operators that could benefit from transitioning to EVs just don’t have the expertise and resources needed to take on such a project,” said Bryan Vaughn, Managing Director, CleanTech Breakthrough. “Highland is bringing cleaner, healthier transportation to communities as well as helping to stabilize the grid and provide emergency power through their pioneering use of V2G projects. We’re proud to name Highland Electric Fleets ‘Clean Technology Transportation Company of the Year!'”

The combined stack pairs Mattermost’s sovereign operations platform with advanced Cohere models through Cohere North, enabling teams in national security and critical infrastructure to run powerful agents inside the mission systems they already use. Operators can fuse intelligence, accelerate planning, defend against agentic cyber threats, and coordinate with allies — all with human‑in‑the‑loop oversight, full auditability, and data‑centric Zero Trust security.

TORONTO, Oct. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Mattermost agents, powered by advanced Cohere models through Cohere North, bring multi-user, multi-agent sovereign platforms to national security and critical infrastructure operations, delivered as a combined stack under customer control and fielded by forward-deployed engineers who turn sovereign AI into mission results.

Mattermost, the sovereign human-machine teaming platform trusted by national security and critical infrastructure enterprises worldwide, and Cohere, the world’s leading sovereign AI company delivering mission-grade language models and agentic solutions for the most demanding regulated industries, today announced a strategic partnership to jointly serve national security and critical infrastructure organizations needing AI-powered operations with zero compromise on sovereignty.

In practice, this means commanders and operators can deploy Mattermost agents powered by advanced Cohere models inside the command-and-control, intelligence, and mission workflows they already run on Mattermost: fusing streams of reporting into decision-ready assessments, accelerating planning and execution cycles from headquarters to the tactical edge, and coordinating action with trusted partner nations. Critical infrastructure enterprises in financial services, energy, manufacturing, and technology can do the same, with teams of people and agents defending against agentic cyber attacks and building, securing, and deploying digital systems faster, while keeping regulated data and critical IP on infrastructure they own. Every agent action stays under human authority and on the record, and data stays under the operator’s control.

“Operators need more than single-player AI,” said Jason Blais, VP Product and NATO Alliances, Mattermost. “They need multi-user, multi-agent environments where people and agents work as one, connected to the critical real-time information essential for effective, timely decisions, without a single byte of data leaving their control. Bringing Cohere into the environments where Mattermost customers operate gives defence and critical infrastructure organizations exactly what they need to stay ahead of adversaries with rapidly escalating capabilities.”

Built for Vital Defence and Critical Infrastructure Operations

Mattermost agents connected to Cohere North work alongside people in Mattermost’s channels, workflows, and mission-critical applications, entirely inside infrastructure the customer controls. Together they serve the isolated environments behind the world’s most vital services, from defence networks to energy grids, where operations must withstand outages, multi-tenant disruptions, and geopolitical instability, and data stays in the customer’s jurisdiction, reducing dependence on external decisions. Cohere North is built for private deployment on-premises, in private clouds, or fully air-gapped.

“Mission-critical organizations shouldn’t have to send their most sensitive data to a public cloud just to get frontier AI performance,” said Michael McMillan, VP of Global Partner Ecosystem, Cohere. “Pairing Cohere North – our advanced AI models and SOTA agentic platform – with Mattermost’s sovereign operations platform means our most regulated customers get best-in-class AI without leaving their own infrastructure.”

What Operators and Agents Can Do Together

The Mattermost and Cohere solution allows for human-in-the-loop oversight and full auditability. Zero Trust and ABAC (attribute-based access control) policies govern messages, files, agents, and workflows, and specialist data-centric security partners extend those protections to help organizations address national and jurisdictional requirements. Manual and automated data sharing is governed by policy and integrates with cross-domain solutions, and the full stack runs anywhere it’s needed, from on-premises and air-gapped networks to private clouds and classified environments. These foundational capabilities let organizations:

Defend against escalating agentic cyber attacks by connecting proprietary SIEM and SOAR platforms into automated incident response that augments human analysts and reduces fatigue, without exposing sensitive data to third-party AI or infrastructure.Build, secure, and deploy digital systems faster and more reliably through DevSecOps workflows where engineers and agents work side by side, connected to custom tooling, while keeping source code and critical IP entirely in-house.Gain decision advantage with human-machine teaming by fusing multi-source intelligence reporting into draft assessments that analysts review and approve, inside the channels and workflows where they already work.Speed sensor-to-effector workflows with AI automation that stays sovereign end to end, keeping humans in command and every decision on the record.Coordinate coalition operations faster and more effectively, with policy-based sharing controls that help each partner see only the information it is authorized to receive.Supplement existing Microsoft Teams and Azure AI Foundry investments with the right mix of cloud and on-premises: Mattermost embeds in Teams through the Microsoft Marketplace, including in GCC High, so sensitive operations run fully on-premises or in private networks within the same Teams experience.

These capabilities come to market in Mattermost v12, shipping October 16, 2026.

Forward-Deployed Engineers Turn Sovereign AI Into Mission Results

Advanced AI models and a sovereign human-machine teaming platform are now available together. Unlocking their full potential takes hands-on AI expertise inside these environments. Mattermost’s forward-deployed engineers are ready to deploy Cohere-based sovereign AI solutions for existing and new Mattermost customers, working alongside operators to drive transformation. The team draws on domestic nationals in the Five Eyes and NATO countries it serves, working within each nation’s security requirements to bring that expertise directly to where missions and critical operations run.
